I have a Acer w 510 running Windows 8.1. We are trying to boot to a usb device to reload backups. we have tried small drives less than 4 gb and large drives greater than 4 gb. we have set the bios to USB HDD being the first choice. we have created the bootable drive UEFI. We have updated the bios to 2.0 version.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

    1) Must be Fat32

    2) Must have a GPT

    3) Must have the correct signature

or Must turn UEFI off (many threads).

Didn't see you mention enabling and using the F12 boot. Some things are much easier with a USB keyboard.

Did you try creating a recovery flash drive and try booting from that ? It always works for me and is a good check.

In the past I have been able to boot from almost anything.

Thnak you all that have given ideas and suggestions. I was told today that you cant boot to a usb stick with a W510. I am curious is there anyone out there that can boot to a usb stick with a W510. I am starting to think we have a hardware problem.
