W510 microphone problem

I just got my Iconia W510 yesterday and noticed that when I tried to record sound either with the video camera or Sound Recorder that the volume was extremely low.  I set the volume up to 100% in Control Panel but the problem still persisted.  Then I noticed that if I had my external speakers plugged into the speaker jack the microphone worked fine - the volume was good - but if I pulled the speaker jack out the volume was horrible again.

I finally called tech support and he had me go into Device Manager and uninstall the two drivers that showed up under Sound - Intel SST Audio Device and Realtek I2S Audio Codec - and then reboot the system so that Windows would reinstall the drivers.  This fixed the problem.  Posting this here in case anyone else has the problem.

Unfortunately the problem came back.  It seems reloading the drivers only fixes the problem temporarily.  After running a Metro app or two that uses the microphone the problem reappears and I can't get any volume out of the microphone unless something is plugged into the output jack.

The other big issue I'm having is that the SNID on this system doesn't appear in their database even though I bought this unit from the Microsoft store so I can't use their web based support and when I call for support I have to go through India for a half hour or more of trying to convince them that it is a valid SNID before they let me through to tech support.

I am having the same problem. Sound recorder just records static. There are no outstanding driver or system updates. The W510 uses the Intel SST Audio system. My driver is version is 6.2.9200.22017

In addition the entire device loses audio every few hours and requires a reboot (this actually occurred while writing this post on the device)

happy with device, but these are dealbreakers...

ACER: ARE YOU GUYS PLANNING ON UPDATING THESE DRIVERS ??

    Hi,

There are updated drivers available on the Acer Support website. Please download the "W510 Driver Package". Unzip the contents and run the setup. You will need to have the machine on charge. This will update drivers and update unit to the latest BIOS.

    Thanks

I updated the drivers and the problem still exists. The microphone has barely any sensitivity. Please help me fix this as I love the machine but this is a show stopper - need ability to use speach recognition.

    Hi deakta

If you go into control panel>speech recognition

There are options to configure and set up microphone.

Please try and see how you go.

Tried everything I can think of. Can't find any way to adjust the mic sensitivity. Voice recognition works well with a headset, but the internal mic appears to be useless.

yep same problem here. The level is verrrrry low. Completely unusable (I tried new drivers, upping the amplification option on the device configuation panel...)

Lucky me, I don't plan on using skype but still, another thing to fix on this device...

Initially had the same problem as described above.

Just updated with the new driver pack (BIOS 1.51 + Drivers) and that seems to have solved the problem!

Try it and let us know if it works for you as well !
