Thanks for the feedback, as a test I removed the 8GB RAM module and the problem went away. Interesting as the RAM appeared to be the correct specification for the unit based on the Kingston.com site

    Sorry premature send

6 Month old Aspire v5-572G Windows 8.0 running very sloooowly at startup. Being semi technical (i.e. know enough to be dangerous) decided plan A to upgrade the ram  (ADATA Premier DDR3 8GB 1600Mhz CL11 (512x8) Unbuffered Non-ECC SODIMM Module) but that didn't make a difference.

Plan B factory restore (option fully clean the drive). After 10+ hours gotr a restore but after config the notebook is running like a dog, 100% CPU utilisation all of the time (various processes) with e.g. only outlook and IE applications. Interestingly now the sound is really crackling in the speakers.

Thinking something might have gone wrong in the restore I did it again (this time almost 24 hours to restore) and the same 100 CPU issue is still here.

    Help!!??

It might an issue with the hard drive. Check with the manufacturer.

    hi...

This could be an issue with internal hardware.

Ive done another factory restore with the *GB ram removed, and everything is working like a dream - assume this will have dealt with any chipset driver issues?

Clearly the RAM upgrade caused the problems I was experiencing. Interestingly the factory RAM module was in the bottom slot, when all video clips I viewed on adding RAM had the factory RAM in the slot above it.

Any ideas as to why this problem occurred, faulty RAM chip or is the one I installed not compatible?
