Wifi no longer functioning - Aspire V5 121

Unfortunately I am the latest victim of what I today have discovered to be a shockingly common issue.

My netbook had been working fine for 5 months up until 24 hours ago. I have tried pretty much all the fixes suggested on the various threads here relating to this issue and nothing has worked.

Can anyone from Acer help me here at all??

    hi..

It would be helpful if you provide information on error mesage when try to use the wireless connecttivity.

You may check if the wireless device is turned ON, if not turn it On by press the Fn + F3 key.

I assume that you are using windows 8. You nat try to reset BIOS to default settings.

Please tap the F2 key as soon as you restart the computer since windows 8 loads too fast.
Please press the F9 key and then select "Yes" to load default and save the configuration.
Then press the F10 key and select "Yes" to save the changes in BIOS.

If the issue still persists, get back to us with more information on error message and name of the wireless adapter in device manager.

Windows 8, recently upgraded to 8.1. Updating to 8.1 isn't an issue as the problem existed before that. Wireless IS turned on (I'm not an *****!!). No error message, it just says "No Internet access" when I hover over the wifi icon in the bottom right corner, the yellow triangle with an ! Appears over the wifi symbol.

I did what you said above with the BIOS, made no difference. Network Adapter is Qualcomm Atheros AR5B125 wireless network adapter. Drivers are up to date.

One point which may or not be relevant, my wifi worked perfectly until This one time I selected Flight Mode (Fn + F3), once I disabled flight mode that's when the problems began.

Jordan, MAYBE you're lucky and it is only a software problem. Try using System Restore to go back to a working set-up.

Hi Vince, I tried that a few times and it appeared to work at first (with good but not full strength WiFi) but after a few restarts the problem just resurfaces. The last two times I syst restored it made no difference unfortunately. If I'm lucky, I might get half strength WiFi every 5/6 times I start the computer, otherwise; none at all (i.e. "Limited")

    Thanks for your response!

Before trying a system restore there are two things you can try.

    1) Go into Device Manager and uninstall the wireless driver completely. Reboot and let it reinstall itself.Try again.

    2) Right click (long press) on the wireless icon in the tray and select "troubleshoot". Let it ker chunk until done. It might find the problem.

    Thanks for your response padgett.

I may have stumbled upon a solution- I uninstalled "Acer Device Fast-Lane" and my WiFi appears to have been fixed. I've booted three times in a row and the WiFi was perfect every time. I've had a few false dawns so far only for the problem to resurface, but so far it looks good.

So this may just have been a software conflict caused by Acer Device Fast-Lane. I'll post an update again in the next few days.
