I recently cracked my acer aspire v5-571p 15.6 inch touch model by mistake the glass was cracked we opened it up to have look, Yes I was being gentle. Now when we power it up the screen as a fade light that power is getting to it but after that theres no display at all or backlight lighting up I have shined a tourch to it theres no display at all not even dim.

I have tested it with A monitor and yes it does work as Im typing it now via my monitor so that rules out it being the graphics or motherboard luckily.

Anyway what should I be replacing first to get display back is it the LCD Screen or Inverter?

Im tight on money so I wont be able to pruchase the other till a few weeks that's why I need to make the right choice to atleast get laptop display back.

Everything seems fine with the cables so not sure.

Hoping to get ana nswer by the end of the day all I may aswill try the screen.

Thanks,

Spudster

  • It really is impossible to give a definitive answer.
Did the screen light prior to your disassembly?
    How far did you disassemble?
Are all connectors on the converter board intact?
Short of physical damage to the converter board or connectors, I would guess it would be ok.

The screen did but was also cracked so maybe opening it may have put extra presure on the screen since it was cracked I got a new lcd on ebay so i see what happends then. should recieve the screen in a few days.

its hard to tell if its the screen or cable.

As for all the connections by looking at them no damage has been done as I was being gentle.

Where on ebay could I buy a new inverter just incase.

  • The converter board is securely fixed to the bottom of the screen so you may be lucky unless the impact was sufficient to damage it or the cables. There are two, the LCD cable and the FPC cable (which also runs directly up the back of the screen to the camera). Check that this isn't cracked if it runs near the screen break. Also the motherboard LCD connection should be checked for correct seating (it's next to the fan and taped).

If your eBay purchase is second hand, you may find that it comes with the converter still attached. Unfortunately, I don't know off hand where you could obtain spares.

While not wishing to teach you to 'suck eggs', pay special attention to anti-static precautions and go easy with those cables and connectors - they are delicate and easily damaged.
