Why is my Silicon-Power UD90 SSD showing up as Controller in BIOS on Acer Aspire A515-54G-530F?

I have been fighting with this problem ever since I have installed the new SSD to give this laptop a new chance at life, but downloading IRST or AHCI drivers haven't solved my issues either even though I have tried many-many attempts trying to fix this issue… please help me install Windows 11 on this machine
To help solving this problem just tell me what else do I need to attach to close down this problem once and for all….

    Hi Mici_97,

For the Aspire A515‑54G (2019 release), you’ll want to stick with a conventional PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD for best compatibility. A solid choice is the Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 TB, which works reliably in this platform.

Given that the latest BIOS for this model is v1.24 from Oct 2021and the EC firmware hasn’t been updated since, the embedded controller is not compatible with Windows 11 24H2. If you plan to run Windows 11, you’ll need to stay on 22H2 or 23H2 for stable operation.

    Steps:

    1. Power off and disconnect AC.
    2. Install the Gen3 NVMe SSD in the M.2 slot.
    3. In BIOS, confirm it’s detected under Information.
    4. Install Windows using AHCI mode (no IRST needed).
    5. Update all drivers from Acer’s support page after OS setup.

Your Aspire A515-54G laptop is not a Gen 4 x4 M. SSD spec laptop, this laptops max speed M.2 SSD drive is a Gen 3 x4 lane speed drive, but the M.2 Gen 4 x4 drives are backward compatible and the Silicon-Power UD90 SSD should work, but the only thing that will happen is that the Gen 4 x4 Silicon-Power UD90 SSD will operate at a Gen 3 x4 speed which is max 4000MT/s (which it will never reach and it will be something like 3200MT/s) or maybe try and use an M.2 Gen 3 x4 like a WD SN530 or a Samsung 970 EVO Plus drives that are all PCIe3x4 type drives.

The bios should be "Loaded at Setup Defaults" first, then make also sure that you construct a proper bootable installation USB drive with the Rufus 4.9 software and follow its guide to construct this bootable USB and then put the Aspire A515-54Gs IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver version 17.8.0.1065 onto the installation USB, then when you reach the Win-11 24H2 installation section at > Where do you want to install Windows? > Load driver > you install the IRST version17.8.0.1065 section 09AB so that the Win-11 installation will recognize the M.2 SSD drive and you can continue and finish the installation. try all that as it will work. good luck.

    Hi Mici_97,

Be cautious with advice suggesting you can run Windows 11 24H2 on this model with a 4‑year‑old BIOS. The Aspire A515‑54G’s last BIOS (v1.24, Oct 2021) and EC firmware pre‑date 24H2, and there’s no vendor‑supplied update to bring embedded controller compatibility in line with Microsoft’s current requirements.

Also note that while your 9th Gen Intel CPU is supported for Windows 11 in general, Microsoft’s hardware floor for 24H2 is tighter — many older platforms pass the basic checks but fail on firmware/driver readiness, leading to instability or missing features.

For stability, I recommend staying on 22H2 or 23H2 until Acer releases a newer BIOS/EC package for this model.
