Fingerprint sensor not working after Windows 11 upgrade on Acer Spin 3 SP314-54N

Hi

I';ve been having problems with fingerprint sensor not being recognised by laptop after I moved from windows 10 to windows 11. I deleted the old driver and am trying to reinstall it. I have downloaded the appropriate file from the Acer website but when I try and run the setup file I get an error message indicating "Inffiles.txt" is missing. It appears the process has completed successfully but when I check the Device Manager there is no fingerprint sensor driver. Any ideas?

Don't worry about the SP314-54N driver in Device Manager,, set the fingerprint sensor up in Win-11 HERE and follow this guide, as it should install and work for you.

    These are the steps:

    1. Open Settings.
    2. Select “Accounts” on the sidebar.
    3. Click on “Sign-in options.”
    4. Click on “Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello).”
    5. Press the “Set up” button.
    6. Click “Get Started.”
    7. Type the account PIN and click “Next.”
    8. Touch the fingerprint scanner with your finger a few times.
    9. Click “Next” when prompted.
    10. Touch the fingerprint scanner again a few more times with the same finger.
    11. Once done, you will see the “All set” message.
    12. With that, you’ve set fingerprint in Windows 11.

    Hi Steven

    Thanks for your quick response.

Unfortunately I can't do what you recommend as "Fingerprint recognition" isn't available.

I assumed this was due to lack of driver but it might be another problem.

    Any more ideas?

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files and follow that link guide to see how its done, and see if the fingerprint driver is fixed on your Spin 3 SP314-54N laptop, as the Acer driver should install from its setup.exe file.

This is the Spin SP314-54N fingerprint driver

If not then you might have to do a clean install of Win-11 24H2 and construct a bootable USB with Rufus 4.9 and follow its guide and then put the Spin SP314-54N IRST (Intel® Rapid Storage Technology) Driver version 17.8.0.1065 on the bootable drive and when you get tot e win-11 installation section at “Where do you want to install Windows? > Load driver > you need to load the IRST driver and install the 09AB section that comes up, so that you can finish the installation and once you are finished the fingterprint driver should be installed automatically in device manage. So try that as a last resort. Good luck and hope this helps you out to solve this problem.

If you're having trouble downloading the fingerprint sensor driver for your Acer Spin 3 SP314-54N, here's a troubleshooting approach:
    1. Check for basic solutions
Restart your laptop: A simple restart can often resolve temporary software glitches.
Clean the fingerprint sensor: Use a soft cloth lightly dampened with alcohol to gently clean the fingerprint reader.

Check Windows Hello settings: If the driver is installed but you're having recognition issues, go to "Settings" -> "Accounts" -> "Sign-in options" -> "Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello)" and set up your fingerprint there.

    2. Obtain the correct driver
Go to the official Acer Support website: Visit https://www.acer.com/in-en/support/drivers-and-manuals.
Identify your device: Enter your device serial number, SNID, or model number (SP314-54N) to find the correct drivers.
Download the fingerprint driver: Select the appropriate fingerprint sensor driver for your Windows version and download it.
Install the driver: Follow the on-screen instructions to install the downloaded driver. Restart your laptop afterward for the changes to take effect.

    3. Advanced troubleshooting (if the problem persists)
Update BIOS/UEFI Firmware: Consider updating your laptop's BIOS/UEFI firmware, as this can sometimes include updates that benefit drivers. Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver:
Open "Device Manager" (you can search for it in the Windows search bar).
Expand "Biometric devices" or "Human Interface Devices".
Right-click on the "Fingerprint Sensor" (or similarly named device) and select "Uninstall device".
Check "Attempt to remove the driver for this device" and click "Uninstall".
Restart your laptop. Windows might automatically reinstall the driver, or you can go back to the Acer support site to download and install it manually.

The image you posted of your Device Manager, isn't open to the right place to see if the fingerprint sensor is even being recognized. You need to look in Biometric Devices not in Human Interface Devices. You might have to turn on show hidden to see it. If there is nothing listed, or it's listed but grayed out, then the system isn't seeing the sensor. The sensor itself sits on an internal USB port, so your issue could be something to do with the USB devices as well as with the sensor itself. A bad USB hub could stop the system from seeing anything connected to the internal hub. Is there anything else that doesn't seem to be working?

    Hi Billsey

    Thanks for your help.

I don't have a tab for "Biometric Devices" when I look in Device Manager.

All ports (USB A & C plus SD card) are working fine as is the track pad.

I replaced the battery recently, is it possible I've somehow physically disconnected the fingerprint sensor?

    cheers
