For some reason only 1 of the fans is spinning no matter the temperature, second fan just doesn't want to spin

Hi @JustA If the laptop is still under warranty, take it to Acer Services in your country to have the fans checked.

If you’re certain a fan is faulty, you can replace it yourself — it’s a straightforward DIY job (about 20 minutes) and inexpensive.

A quick way to check if a laptop fan is faulty:

    1. Listen for operation — power on and place your ear near the exhaust; a working fan should produce a steady whir.
    2. Feel for airflow — place your hand near the vents; little to no airflow when the system is warm may indicate a problem.
    3. Check with software — tools like HWMonitor or SpeedFan can display fan RPM; a constant “0 RPM” when under load suggests failure.
    4. Visual inspection — with the laptop safely opened, see if the fan spins freely when gently nudged (system off). Grinding, stiffness, or wobble means it should be replaced.

If in doubt, and especially if under warranty, have Acer Services confirm the diagnosis before taking further action.

Several possibilities could explain why only one fan is spinning on your Acer Aspire A715-76G:
Normal Operation (if applicable): Some laptops, especially those with powerful components, utilize intelligent fan control. The system might only activate the second fan when the CPU and/or GPU reach a certain temperature threshold or are under heavy load (like during gaming or resource-intensive tasks).
    Software/Settings related:-

Fan Control Utility or BIOS Settings: There might be software utilities or BIOS settings that control fan speed and behavior. Check if these settings are configured to only enable one fan or have a "0 RPM zone" where fans don't spin at lower temperatures.
Power Plan: Your laptop's power plan might be set to a power-saving mode that prioritizes quiet operation over maximum cooling, potentially affecting when the second fan engages.
Outdated Drivers/BIOS: Ensure your system's BIOS and device drivers are updated, as out-of-date versions can sometimes cause unexpected behavior with hardware components, including fans.

    Hardware Issues:
Loose or Damaged Connection: The fan's power connection to the motherboard could be loose or damaged, preventing it from spinning.
Dust Accumulation: Dust and debris can clog the fan and vents, hindering its ability to spin freely and potentially leading to overheating. This may cause the system to rely more heavily on the working fan.
Fan Failure: The non-spinning fan itself might be faulty or has reached the end of its lifespan.
Sensor Fault: There might be a problem with the temperature sensor associated with the non-spinning fan, preventing it from activating correctly based on temperature readings.

Performing a full shutdown instead of a regular reboot has helped resolve this for some users. It’s also important to check if your BIOS is up to date and whether your system supports Connected Standby, which can influence thermal management. With the laptop safely powered off and opened, gently push the fan to see if it rotates smoothly. If it feels stuck, makes grinding noises, or wobbles, it likely has a mechanical fault. If the second fan still doesn’t activate, contact Acer support.
