Hello,

I have an acer predator helios 300 with a 3070 graphics card. Recently the nividia driver updates cause it to crash and go into the windows blue screen cycle. Only thing that works to resolve this, is to either reinstall windows or unplug and roll back the driver update to 556. The driver that works (556) is over 7 months old, has anyone been getting this problem and if so how was it fixed?

    Hi whatnameisnttaken,

For your Predator Helios 300 with the RTX 3070, I strongly recommend downloading the dGPU (NVIDIA) driver only from Acer’s Support site. These drivers are customized and validated specifically for your system’s BIOS and thermal tuning.

Installing drivers directly from NVIDIA or third-party sites may result in:

    • ❌ Blue screen crashes or boot loops (as you’ve experienced)
    • ❌ Driver install failures due to missing Acer-specific INF mods
    • ❌ Loss of fan control or PredatorSense misbehavior

The stable version you're using (556) is proof that OEM tuning matters. Acer Support may not always have the newest version, but what they publish is tested for system compatibility.

Reinstalling Windows is a last resort—your instincts to roll back were spot on. Stick with Acer's certified builds to avoid future headaches.

Thank you for your response. I've had a look on the acer support site and cant find any graphics drivers other than bios and firmware. Do you have a link to graphics drivers?

    thank you

Hey there @whatnameisntaken — saw your note about driver version 556 being the only one that doesn’t crash your Helios 300. You’re not imagining it: the NVIDIA drivers on Acer's site are indeed easy to overlook, especially if you're filtering by the wrong OS or model SKU.

Your rig is likely one of two variants:

    🔹 PH315-54 🔹 PH317-55

Both use the RTX 3070, and both have Acer-certified VGA drivers customized for BIOS, thermals, and PredatorSense compatibility. Here’s what you’re looking for:

    💻 Model

    📎 Driver Version

    🗓️ Release Date

    🖥️ OS

    🔗 Download Link

    PH315-54

    27.21.14.6262 (OEM RTX 3070)

    June 24, 2021

    Win 10 64-bit

Acer Predator PH315-54 Notebooks & Tablet PCs > Downloads Drivers, Utilities and Manual

    PH317-55

    27.21.14.6262 (OEM RTX 3070)

    June 24, 2021

    Win 10 64-bit

    Acer Support PH317-55

💡 Tip: On Acer's site, the NVIDIA driver may be listed under “VGA” or tucked behind filters—so manually selecting the correct OS and scrolling down is key. You can also use your SNID or serial number for direct matches.

If you’ve already rolled back to version 556, the links above will help you reinstall the stable OEM build without needing a full Windows reset again. Hope that saves you some frustration!

Install the NVidia App and update the RTX3070 game ready driver that way with that app and do a clean install when you install the driver, so that all the previous NVidia drivers are deleted off your system. As that is how you should install all Nvidia drivers. if you are still getting BSODs errors then its related to the gpu or the vram hardware that is faulty and its causing those errors.

Install the NVidia driver with this option only every time.

Using almost the same laptop with the same gpu (ph315-53-77k0) and having a simular issue.

When trying to install any driver after 566.36 the pc freezes requiring me to force a shutdown. When I restart the pc, it gets stuck in a blue screen loop (flashing error: VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL). After a couple of tries it boots into recovery mode, where I then have to enable safe mode and reinstall version 566.36.
I have tried many ways to fix this issue but nothing has worked yet:

    • Perform a clean install (both in normal and safe mode)
    • Remove the driver first using DDU (both in normal and safe mode)
    • Reinstall an Acer certified driver, however the only one available is over 4 years old and doesn't even work with the final Windows 10 build, let alone any recent Windows 11 build.

The only thing I haven't tried is reinstalling Windows 10, since it would take weeks to months to get all software reinstalled and reconfigured. So I would prefer to avoid that unless the drivers become a critical problem. For the moment its just annoying that I can't participate in the Battlefield 6 Beta because of this.

! Some things I found out:

    • Version 566.36 is the last version before DLSS 4 and support for the first 50 series gpu's was added.
    • Windows Device manager can install the newest driver while in safe mode, but it crashes once you restart the pc.
    • Since the error code seems to point to a problem with the VRAM, I checked its status and found the following: No direct problems, but the gpu is connected to the motherboard via a PCIe 3.0 connection in x8 mode (since the chipset/cpu only supports 16 total lanes with some needed for the nvme drives). This bandwith limitation has caused some small perfomance problems before, but there is nothing I can do about it since it's a hardware limitation.

Update on the issue. I created a dual boot with a fresh Windows 10 install to see if resetting my orignal install could be a feasible solution. After completing the setup I immediately tried to install the latest Nvidia drivers (580.97), doing a clean install of the driver only (so no Nvidia App).

Halfway through the install my pc froze and crashed just like before, displaying the same VIDEO_MEMORY_MANAGEMENT_INTERNAL error as before. Trying to restart the new Windows install after this just leads to a constant crash before the OS has fully started.

From this I have to conclude that neither the OS nor the software installed on the orignal Windows install is causing the problem. This leaves only the firmware for other components (like the motherboard), the hardware itself or Nvidia's drivers as the culprit. The latter may get resolved eventually, but the former 2 are permantly broken since it's a laptop (so can't swap hardware) and the last firmware updates were published over 3-4 years ago.

Also for anyone asking, the warrenty for the laptop ended about 1.5 years ago, so I can't exchange it for a new one unfortunately.

    @Spacehack100

I'm relieve that someone else is having the same issue, as i thought it was just me. But it's unfortunate youre in a similar situation .

From what you have said I agree it appears to be a motherboard issue.

Does the blue screen cycle end, if you unplug the laptop whilst it is going through the error?
I'm curious about this one, as from my research, when unplugged the laptop runs on the integrated graphics card rather than the dedicated one.

I did have another issue with the laptop where it could not run a occulus rift when plugged in.

I contacted nividia who said they do not have any involvement in the graphics cards for laptops. I have contacted Acer support who have recommended to do a fresh intstall of windows, which we have both found does not work.

With unplugging the laptop, it has had mixed results with me. It seems that as long as I don't do anything that requires the gpu everything goes fine. However, the os and bios seem to control that without me having much control over it.

As for the issue with your Oculus Rift, there are about 15 different settings/configurations that can cause problems with it. I can run a Meta Quest 3 via a link cable just fine, so I doubt that these problems are related. I suggest browsing the Meta Quest/Rift support platforms for a solution.

Hey guys, thought I join this conversation since it is keeping me up at night.

I am having the exact same problem. Every driver after Dec 05 2025 causes a BSOD if the charger is plugged in. If plugged out, my Laptop runs fine, no problems. Latest driver, I can play Battlefield 6. Once plugged in: Instant BSOD. I tried almost anything. Including full resets x undervolting. I contacted Acer, the CEO's of Acer, they did not respond. Now I am in contact with Nvidia. They escalated this issue to their team. They wanted DMP files and said that they will look into this. I told them that we need a driver update ASAP since I am not the only one and this used to be a premium laptop. I created multiple reddit posts. U probably stumbled upon them already. This is by far the weirdest BSOD of all time. There is literally no fix to this matter. Unless Acer / Nvidia roll out a fix. We need to ring the alarm. Otherwise we will get ignored. I encourage everyone reading this to get in touch with Nvidia and Acer, this is our money and we are being slept on.

We can fix this together, but first we need to get heard.

We are unable to play new games that require us to update our Nvidia drivers.. We literally cannot upgrade our drivers otherwise we BSOD. We are being left in the dark. This is crazy.

These BSODs are common not only on the Predator laptops but the Nitro models also. Your PH315-54 must have a vram or a fried gpu if its getting continual BSODs and you can't boot the laptop at all and/or use the laptop, as you either have to buy a new board if you want the NVidia gpu features or disable the NVidia gpu and only use the Intel cpu graphics which means that the Nvidia gpu vram chips have to be all unsoldered by a tech so that the cpu graphics can work.

Btw, I'm getting similar BSODs with my RTX3050 gpu whenever I update my NVidia gpu driver in my 2021 Nitro AN515-56 laptop which is also an 11th Gen cpu laptop, as whenever I update to the latest NVidia graphics driver for the RTX3050 gpu, the NVidia graphics installation starts and like 85% through the installation I get a BSOD and the laptop reboots, but the new NVidia driver is installed and in Device Manager > Display adapters the RTX3050 driver is the latest one, so I can't figure out what is going on, as this has started happening in the last 6 months with every new NVidia driver.

Buy one of the boards below for your PH315-54 laptop, as the top of the range board for the PH315-54 model the i7-11800H cpu with the RTX3060 8GB gpu board is around $572.00 or even cheaper, that will cost you allot less than getting your existing board gpu fixed or analysed by a tech, so that you find out that you need a new board if you want a board with an operational NVidia gpu.
