Hello,

I have an acer predator helios 300 with a 3070 graphics card. Recently the nividia driver updates cause it to crash and go into the windows blue screen cycle. Only thing that works to resolve this, is to either reinstall windows or unplug and roll back the driver update to 556. The driver that works (556) is over 7 months old, has anyone been getting this problem and if so how was it fixed?

    Hi whatnameisnttaken,

For your Predator Helios 300 with the RTX 3070, I strongly recommend downloading the dGPU (NVIDIA) driver only from Acer’s Support site. These drivers are customized and validated specifically for your system’s BIOS and thermal tuning.

Installing drivers directly from NVIDIA or third-party sites may result in:

    • ❌ Blue screen crashes or boot loops (as you’ve experienced)
    • ❌ Driver install failures due to missing Acer-specific INF mods
    • ❌ Loss of fan control or PredatorSense misbehavior

The stable version you're using (556) is proof that OEM tuning matters. Acer Support may not always have the newest version, but what they publish is tested for system compatibility.

Reinstalling Windows is a last resort—your instincts to roll back were spot on. Stick with Acer's certified builds to avoid future headaches.

Thank you for your response. I've had a look on the acer support site and cant find any graphics drivers other than bios and firmware. Do you have a link to graphics drivers?

    thank you

Hey there @whatnameisntaken — saw your note about driver version 556 being the only one that doesn’t crash your Helios 300. You’re not imagining it: the NVIDIA drivers on Acer's site are indeed easy to overlook, especially if you're filtering by the wrong OS or model SKU.

Your rig is likely one of two variants:

    🔹 PH315-54 🔹 PH317-55

Both use the RTX 3070, and both have Acer-certified VGA drivers customized for BIOS, thermals, and PredatorSense compatibility. Here’s what you’re looking for:

    💻 Model

    📎 Driver Version

    🗓️ Release Date

    🖥️ OS

    🔗 Download Link

    PH315-54

    27.21.14.6262 (OEM RTX 3070)

    June 24, 2021

    Win 10 64-bit

Acer Predator PH315-54 Notebooks & Tablet PCs > Downloads Drivers, Utilities and Manual

    PH317-55

    27.21.14.6262 (OEM RTX 3070)

    June 24, 2021

    Win 10 64-bit

    Acer Support PH317-55

💡 Tip: On Acer's site, the NVIDIA driver may be listed under “VGA” or tucked behind filters—so manually selecting the correct OS and scrolling down is key. You can also use your SNID or serial number for direct matches.

If you’ve already rolled back to version 556, the links above will help you reinstall the stable OEM build without needing a full Windows reset again. Hope that saves you some frustration!

Install the NVidia App and update the RTX3070 game ready driver that way with that app and do a clean install when you install the driver, so that all the previous NVidia drivers are deleted off your system. As that is how you should install all Nvidia drivers. if you are still getting BSODs errors then its related to the gpu or the vram hardware that is faulty and its causing those errors.

Install the NVidia driver with this option only every time.
