Since day 1 I had problems with the build in screen of this laptop. It does not give any image. Sometimes I get it to work, but only temporary. Also the external port doesn't always work. Sometimes only when we plug it in after it started up. I always hoped a bios update would fix it, but it doesn't. When removing the Nvidia drivers the build in screen works just fine, but that's not why I bought a RTX 4060 laptop. Does anyone have a fix? We bought it around February 2025, so we are still in the warranty period, but I don't want to miss it for a couple of weeks. So I hope to find a solution here, before having to send it in for a warranty claim.

If the PHN14-51 is still under warranty then send it to Acer Tech Support in your country, as you should have done this right from day 1 when the black screen appeared. If the laptop is out of the Acer warranty I suggest that you first do a Hard Reset as this laptop could have the symptom of a frozen EC chip that needs a proper reset. If a hard reset doesn't fix this issue, then it could be the laptops main power rail that either a mosfet, capacitor or resistor chip is failing or its the laptops eDP screen cable or the actual screen that is faulty. So have all that checked out by a technician in your area. Good luck and hope this helps you out

These are the PHN14-51 parts that could be faulty and causing the black screen, so have them checked out or replaced

Hard Reset - Remove the nine (9) screws from the base cover to the upper case of your PHN14-51 model laptop, starting from the upper side, pry to release the upper side latches, continue releasing the remaining latches. Then remove the lower case.

Press the power key for 15 seconds to release all power to the laptop and then disconnect the main battery cable from the mainboard, then take the main battery out. Then disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and then short the bios batteries + & - pins at the mainboard plug (as shown at the plug below) to reset CMOS and then take all the ran out.

Leave the laptop like that for at least 30-60min so that the EC, Chipset and bios chips reset completely and then reconnect everything, if you have 2x ram modules, only connect 1x ram module and alternate the two ram modules and see if its not the ram that is faulty, as the laptop should turn on and boot properly with an image on the screen and you should not get any more black screens.

    Hi Michelrom,

Given the display and external port issues from day 1, the best course is to have the unit professionally assessed under warranty. You can either:

    • Return it to the retailer where it was purchased, or
    • Submit a Repair‑under‑Warranty request via Acer’s support site and wait for the shipping instructions by e‑mail.

    Here’s the contact/support page for your country:➡️ https://www.acer.com/worldwide/support

This way, the fault can be diagnosed and fixed without further risk to the system.

Thanx for the replies. I guess I will send it in for repairs then. You are right about I had to send it back on day one. Thanx for the other suggestions, but I'm not touching any screws while under warranty.
