Subject: Swift SF16-51 fan not spinning — diagnostic guide

    Hi MumboFuze,

If your brand-new Swift SF16-51’s fan isn’t spinning—even under load—here’s a step-by-step guide to help isolate the issue. This model was released in late 2024 and features Intel Core Ultra processors with Intel Arc graphics, so some quirks are firmware-related.

    🧊 1. BIOS & Firmware Checks

    • BIOS version: Confirm you're running the latest BIOS from Acer’s support site:🔗 Acer Drivers and Manuals
    • Thermal profile: Check if Acer Care Center or Windows power settings are set to “Silent” or “Battery Saver.” These may delay fan activation until temps exceed 70°C.

    🔍 2. Monitor Temps & Fan RPM

    Use tools like:

    • HWMonitor
    • Open Hardware Monitor

If RPM stays at 0 even when CPU temps rise, it could indicate:

    • EC (Embedded Controller) glitch
    • Fan header issue
    • Firmware misbehavior

    🔄 3. EC & Battery Reset

These resets often restore fan control:

    EC Reset

    1. Shut down the laptop.
    2. Disconnect the charger.
    3. Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
    4. Reconnect and boot.

    Battery Pinhole Reset

    1. Power off the laptop.
    2. Locate the battery reset pinhole (usually on the bottom panel).
    3. Insert a paperclip and hold for 5–10 seconds.
    4. Wait 1 minute, then reconnect power and boot.

    🧪 4. Stress Test

Run a CPU stress test using Cinebench or Prime95. If the fan still doesn’t engage past 80°C, it’s likely a hardware or EC firmware fault.

If it’s a brand new Swift SF16-51 laptop DO NOT open or try to reset anything, as no amount of resetting and/or software giggling and reinstallation will fix this laptops, as its got an internal mainboard fault and for a new laptop this should not be happening.

The fans not spinning is due to a faulty EC chip which is a programmable chip like a bios chip and it needs replacing, which Acer will not do and they will replace your Swift SF16-51 mainboard. So send your laptop to Acer Tech Support in your country and get your be=rand new laptop fixed properly which is my suggestion to you. Good luck and hope this assist you further, as a customer with a new laptop should not have their laptops fans not working.

Swift SF16-51 internals and where the cpu/gpu fans are which either the whole thermal module and fans need replacing or the mainboard needs replacing as its EC chip is faulty.
