Hi,

I'm thinking of buying the Acer Swift Go 16 OLED.
But I see in the specs it comes with Power keycap fingerprint reader.
Is that hard-wired or can it be configured off somehow?

Call me old-fashioned but I just want a regular password sign-in 😄

Thanks.

    Hi Patito789,

Yes, the fingerprint reader is integrated into the power button, but it's not hard-wired in a way that forces you to use it. You can disable Windows Hello fingerprint login anytime via Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.

Personally, I never use Hello FP — I prefer a clean boot straight to the desktop. No lock screen, no delays. After pressing the power button, I’m inside Windows in about 30 seconds.

So if you're old-school and prefer password sign-in (or no sign-in at all), you're totally covered. The fingerprint sensor won’t get in your way.

You don't need to configure the fingerprint reader on the power key of the Swift SFG16-72 as a login means, as its done through Win-11 and is not automatically setup as a means of logging into this laptop win-11 OS. Use the usual 4 pin to log into Win-11 as that is what I do with my Swift SFX15-51G, as its the same exact fingerprint power key sensor system as in the Swift SFG16-72 laptop and it works great.

Yes, the fingerprint reader on an Acer Swift Go can be disabled. You can either disable it through Windows settings or by removing the fingerprint driver in Device Manager. To disable it through Windows settings, navigate to Sign-in options, find the Windows Hello Fingerprint section, and click "Remove". Alternatively, in Device Manager, locate the fingerprint driver under Biometric Devices and remove it.

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:-
Disabling via Windows Settings: Open Settings: Click the Start button and select the Settings icon (gear icon).
Go to Sign-in options: Navigate to Accounts > Sign-in options.
Locate Fingerprint settings: Find the Windows Hello Fingerprint section.
Remove the fingerprint: Click the "Remove" button to disable the fingerprint reader.
Confirm with password: You may be prompted to enter your Windows password for confirmation.

    Disabling via Device Manager:
Open Device Manager: Press the Windows key + R, type "devmgmt.msc" and press Enter.
Locate Biometric Devices: Expand the "Biometric Devices" category.
Remove the driver: Right-click on the fingerprint driver and select "Uninstall device".
Reboot: Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Optional: Reinstall (if needed): If you want to re-enable the fingerprint reader, you can go back to Device Manager, click "Action" and select "Scan for hardware changes".

By following these steps, you can effectively disable the fingerprint reader on your Acer Swift Go laptop.
