When computer goes to sleep - not able to log back into computer - has done this since day one of the new computer. Get the following message "Something went wrong and your PIN isn't available (code 0x8028008b). Click to set up your PIN again" I tried setting up PIN again - get same message. Only way to get back into computer is to restart.

If your PIN isn't working after your computer wakes from sleep mode, it's likely due to a setting in Windows that's either not configured correctly or has become corrupted. You can resolve this by checking and potentially resetting your PIN or adjusting the sign-in settings related to sleep mode. Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:-

    1. Check Sign-in Options:
Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
Look for the "Require sign-in" setting. If it's set to "Never," your PIN may not be required after waking from sleep.
Change this setting to "When PC wakes up from sleep" or "Every time" to ensure the PIN prompt appears after sleep.
You may need to enter your current PIN to verify the change.
    2. Reset the PIN:
If the PIN is still not working, you can reset it.
Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > Windows Hello PIN.
Click "Remove" to remove the existing PIN.
Then, click "Add" to create a new PIN.3. Troubleshoot the NGC Folder (If Applicable):
The "NGC" folder stores your PIN credentials. If it's corrupted, it can cause login issues.
Caution: Back up the folder before making changes.
    Go to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft.
Rename the NGC folder to NGC.OLD.
Restart your computer. Windows will recreate the folder.
You may need to reset your PIN after this.

    Hi, kizer512

    ✅ Recommended Fixes

    1. Reset the Windows Hello PIN Module

This clears the corrupted PIN container and lets the user set it up fresh.

    Steps:

    plaintext

    1. Open File Explorer and go to: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC2. Take ownership of the NGC folder: - Right-click > Properties > Security > Advanced > Change Owner to your user account - Grant full control3. Delete all contents of the NGC folder.4. Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options > PIN (Windows Hello) - Set up a new PIN

This resets the PIN infrastructure. It’s safe and doesn’t affect other login methods.

    2. In-Place Recovery (Repair Install) If the PIN module is deeply corrupted, this method reinstalls Windows without deleting files or apps.

Thanks for solution. I removed the current PIN, which reverted back to MS password (to loging into computer), this works for login and when system goes to sleep mode.
