Acer Aspire A315-24P Charging Light Blinking – Won’t Charge Battery

Hi, I'm having an issue with my Acer Aspire A315-24P laptop.

When I plug in the charger, instead of a steady blue or orange charging light, it blinks orange continuously. The laptop only powers on while plugged in, and it shuts off immediately if I unplug the charger—it's not running off the battery at all.

Interestingly, I managed to get it to turn on once by pressing the battery reset pinhole while the charger was connected. It showed 100% and worked while plugged in, but still didn’t charge the battery, and the blinking light persisted even after leaving it plugged in overnight.

I’ve tried:

  • Different power outlets
  • Leaving it plugged in for hours
  • Battery reset (pinhole)

Still, the LED keeps blinking orange, and the laptop doesn’t charge or run without the charger.

Has anyone experienced this issue or found a fix? Is it more likely to be a battery issue, the charger, or something with the internal charging circuit?

    Hey Ediboy, sounds like your Aspire’s embedded controller (EC) might be misbehaving—especially since your battery is only a year old and shows healthy wear and backup status. This isn’t typical battery degradation, and it's definitely not charger failure either.

    You've already tried a battery reset via the pinhole, so here’s one deeper step you could consider—only if you're comfortable with the potential warranty implications:

    🛠 EC/CMOS Reset Procedure (Advanced & Optional)

    • Disconnect internal battery
    • Remove the CMOS coin cell battery
    • Short the CMOS pins briefly using a paperclip (make sure it's clean and make contact only for 5–10 seconds)
    • Reconnect everything and plug in the adapter

    This forces a fresh EC handshake and can reset odd charging logic states. Some Acer systems fall into low-power lockout states that don’t recover with the regular pinhole reset.

    Also, avoid discharging your battery to 5% regularly—especially if you're doing it for "calibration." Modern lithium-ion batteries don't need that; repeated deep discharges only wear them faster. If you're mostly desk-bound, it’s perfectly fine (and often recommended) to keep your adapter plugged in 24/7. Your system manages power intelligently even when idle.

    I went ahead and did the EC/CMOS reset exactly as you described—disconnected the internal battery, removed the CMOS coin cell, shorted the pins briefly, and then reassembled and plugged it back in.

    However, the laptop still doesn’t power on unless I press the pinhole while it's charging again.

    The charging light is still blinking orange.

    Is it normal for the light to keep blinking orange after the reset? Should I leave it plugged in for a while and wait to see if it starts charging, or does this suggest the issue is still unresolved?

    Would appreciate any more insight!
