Hi, I need help with my Acer Nitro 5 (AN515‑58) because whenever I leave the laptop idle for around 30 minutes, the screen turns off like it's supposed to, but when I come back, even though the laptop seems fully on (keyboard lights are glowing, fans are spinning, and everything sounds active), the screen stays completely black and doesn’t wake up. I’ve tried moving the mouse and pressing keys on the keyboard, but nothing brings the display back. The only way I can get the screen working again is by holding the power button to force a shutdown and then restarting the laptop. It’s like the system is awake but the screen refuses to turn back on. I haven’t changed any settings or tried advanced fixes yet, I’m just using it normally, so I’m not sure if this is a Windows, BIOS, or hardware issue.

I would appreciate any help, this has been a big issue for me

    Hi, lonelyheart

AN515‑58 | Modern Standby Wake Issues (BIOS v2.17 Insight)

If you're running into wake failures from suspend, check if Modern Standby is enabled by default—especially after updating to BIOS v2.17 (2025/03/11). This update includes critical Intel MEI firmware revisions that improve power event handling and stabilize sleep/wake transitions.

    🛠️ Fixes to try:

    • Disable Fast Startup in Control Panel → Power Options
    • Reset Power Plan settings: Edit Power Plan → Restore defaults
    • Confirm if S3 legacy sleep is available in BIOS and re-enable it if needed (some units lose this toggle post-update)

💡 As a quick diagnostic, you can:

    • Set Screen Saver / Display Time-Out to Never
    • Keep the Lock Screen disabledThis helps isolate variables tied to idle transitions. Once you confirm proper wake behavior, you can reintroduce timeouts gradually.

    🔍 For further investigation:

    • Check Power-Troubleshooter and Kernel-Power in Event Viewer
    • Enable wake timers in Advanced Power Settings → Sleep
    • Boot to Safe Mode → Suspend → Resume
    • If it works (screen wakes after suspend), use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to clean and reinstall latest NVIDIA drivers manually—skip GeForce Experience during install.
    • Optionally, toggle Optimus or Hybrid graphics if BIOS allows, forcing iGPU to take over for further testing.
