im running in trouble trying to upgrade gpu's. its abit of a long post, I appreciate any one that reads and try's to help!

i have an old predator G3-710 with a i7-7700 CPU & GTX 1050 2gb that came with the system, ive bought a rx 6600 xt oc 8gb to go in. once i had installed this 6600 the desktop wouldnt load/boot up past the 'predator' logo screen and i couldnt even get into BIOS and had to reinstall the GTX and all nvidia software (pain in my butt haha)

I understand that the base g3 710 came with a 500w PSU and ive upgraded to a cx750 so power isn't an issue, also just for clarity ive installed a 870 evo ssd and 16gb extra ram (sitting @ 24gb now) prior to trying this gpu upgrade and everything works perfectly.

I did also try going down the DDU route and into safe mode and I had already installed AMD software to streamline the process but the card just didn't register?

im new to this whole PC stuff and am abit lost, I did a bit of a google and found that I could need a BIOS update? I went into acer and found all updates needed and downloaded them (there was 9) and asked chatGPT for abit of help (don't shoot me haha!) and it told me to download and process update BIOS_Acer_R02-B2 but when I extracted the folder and tried to do the process nothing happened? so ive just stuck with the 1050 but its a brick and isn't capable of running smoothly with what I want to do so if I could get the 6600 working that would be phenomenal!

sorry for the long post but I wanted to try and be as complete with info as I could be, Thanks in advance

To flash the last G3-710 desktops bios version R02-B2 is very simple, you either follow the "Windows Flash Utility SOP v1.4a" PDF or and with the "EFI Flash SOP(x64) v1.5" which with this methos you need to put the EFI shell relating file to a USB thumbdrive that is formatted as boot drive FAT_32 drive and the file path need you to follow the pDF guide. Like at (E:\EFI\BOOT, E: is an example. Please check the path of your USB thumbdrive) –This is for EFI bootable device, its very simple.

Also, in the G3-710 desktops bios, make sure that at section Advanced > Onboard Graphics Controller > you have the Disabled setting as updating the bios and Disabling the Onboard Graphics will make sure that the AMD RX6600 gpu card will work, as and if you have the G3-710 oem Acer 500W PSU the RX6600 gpu card will work, as that card needs a min 450W PSU to work and for your G3-710 to have enough power from the PSU for all other components to be powered. Good luck and hope this helps you to get the RX6600 gpu to work.

Make sure that the BIOS is set to the below setting

@StevenGen thanks for replying, so ive followed the cmd prompts and updated BIOS but the machine hasn't shut down/restarted after everything has been completed and is stating 100% is it safe to power down the tower and reboot to get into BIOS?

Yes, you can safely reboot the desktop as it says "FW Update is competed successfully" and you are ready, make sure you disable the Onboard Graphics in bios so that the AMD card is detected. Good luck.

@StevenGen my God that was stressful hahah, its all updated and the integrated graphics is disabled, will I have to go through the whole DDU procedure now or just put in the AMD and things should recognise and point me to what I need to do?

I know ive said this but thankyou so much for the help.

NO, don't worry about the DDU just put the AMD RX6600 card into the x16 gpu slot and boot the desktop and install the latest AMD gpu driver below:

    • AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition - Revision Number - Adrenalin 25.6.1 (WHQL Recommended) -Release Date: 2025-06-05

As and afterwards the RX6600 gpu should work 100% with Win-10 OS. Good luck.

so ive installed the rx 6600 xt oc and connected the appropriate PCIe connection and im stuck at this screen and can't progress any further, the fans on the AMD aren't even running, process of elimination means the gpu isn't working properly?

@StevenGen wait sorry, the 6600's fan doesn't engage until a certain temp anyway so no fans on that is redundant haha

Turn the desktop off take the RX6600 gpu out, then take the bios battery out and then leave the desktop like that for 10 min, then put the battery back in and then do a CMOS reset and see if the desktop boots properly, after turn the desktop off again and put the RX6600 gpu in and reboot and see with the gpu engages after that.

This is how you do a CMOS reset for the G3=710 desktop

so ive done a CMOS reset to no succes, i got into BIOS with on board graphics and checked settings everything was good, turned system off and installed the 6600 and got stuck at the logo screen and again couldn't get into BIOS.

im assuming somewhere its failing the POST I did also see that some features of BIOS are gatekept by Acer in pre built machines which ment I couldn't get into specific settings, ive also read that potentially this card just will not work in my system like it has with others, there seems to be alot of variations of people succeeding with this swap or not and I think ive potentially become the latter unfortunately.

im going to check with my local computer guy in the morning if this 6600 is working correctly which I think it is as i potentially seen the fan briefly turn upon startup..

my first computer experience has been a quite informative so far hahah
