    1. Verify and Start Windows Update Services:

    • Open the Services application (search for "services" in the Start menu).
    • Locate and double-click "Windows Update" and "Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS)".
    • Ensure both services are started and set to their recommended startup types (Automatic for BITS, and Automatic (Delayed Start) for Windows Update).
    • If they were not running, restart them and then attempt the update again.

    2. Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter:

    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
    • Select "Windows Update" and run the troubleshooter.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to resolve any detected issues

     Perform a Clean Boot:

    • This can help identify if a third-party software is interfering with the update process.
    • Search for "msconfig" in the Start menu and open System Configuration.
    • Go to the Services tab, hide all Microsoft services, and disable all remaining services.
    • Go to the Startup tab and open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your computer.
    • After restarting, try running Windows Update again.
    • If the error is resolved, you can re-enable the startup items one by one to identify the culprit.

Hi @Donald1956 What is the exact model of the computer and what is the version of Windows?

Has it worked well for you in the past, or did it happen after some kind of change?
    Have you changed your username?
