There have been many cases on reddit of hynix aries controller based ssd (solidigm p44, hynix p41 pro, pc801) starting to lose speed after a few months. The hynix p41 pro has already released a firmware update fixing this, but the solidigm p44 hasn't yet. I have pc801 installed in my laptop, but there is no update in the downoload section either. Does anyone have an updated firmware for pc801 or at least information on when it will come out?

Appreciate the heads-up, SKAER. The PC801’s slowdown issue you mentioned is definitely tied to the Aries controller across multiple SSD brands, but since the drive’s not Acer-specific, firmware updates won’t show up here. Acer doesn’t maintain firmware for third-party OEM SSDs unless they’re bundled with critical system-level patches.

You’ll probably get more traction over at Linus Tech Tips forums—lots of deep-dive discussions there around SSD performance curves, controller behavior, and firmware rollout tracking across P41, P44, and PC801. TechPowerUp is another solid space if you're chasing benchmarks and modded firmware chatter.

For now, Hynix’s Easy Firmware Utility is your best bet to check for updates directly. It’s not flashy, but it works.

There's no dedicated firmware update yet for the PC801 SSD—owners confirm it's essentially an OEM version of the P41 and still affected by the same fast-write cache bug, with SK Hynix yet to release a compatible update
