Swift 3 laptop can not see an LG External CD/DVD drive which works just fine on a different brand computer. Have tried all the ports and made sure that all drivers on the Swift are up to date. Are there only certain external CD/DVD brands that work with Acer? If so, which ones? (I see Acer no longer makes its own ext. CD/DVD drive.) Or do I just need some Acer software to make an external drive work? TIA.

Ok, I think I'm going now and the LG is working: turns out I had Plug & Play toggled off (I guess that's the default setting for some comps? Whatever.) Anyway thanks for the help; glad I got it working, I love this Acer! :-)

Sorry but your Swift is not recognized by the Model #: N21H3, as this number is mainly a certification number that is used internally by Acer, as on that same sticker on the back of the laptop, it will have the exact number of what your laptop is and its specs and it should read Swift SFX14-51G-xxxx that your Swift is recognized by and is known by, as the last 4 digit numbers specify the exact specification of your Swift laptop that Acer use.

Anyway, I've got and use the exact Swift SFX14-51G-7003 model that could be similar to what you have, and its the i7-1260P cpu / RTX3050Ti 4GB GDDR6 gpu / 16GB LPDDR5 soldered ram / Gen 4 x4 1TB M.2 SSD boot drive and a gen 3 x4 slave 2nd M.2 SSD drive to be exact and this laptops 2x side USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports should work with your LG external ODD drive that has a USB 2.0 or even a 3.0 if its later drive that was produced when USB 3.0 were around, as not many came with USB 3.0.

I suggest that you use your LG ODD drive with its original cable and plug, as if the ODD has a USB 2.0 or 3.0 plug that plugs into the back of your LG ODD mini USB, then its the same as what I'm using above with my Lite-On OOD that has a Mini USB to USB 2.0 and its connected to a laptop that has an OS Win-11 24H2 OS build: 6100.4652 and it works on my Predator Neo PHN16-71 perfectly.

Your Swift should be the same. Sorry but I haven't tried to use my Lite-On ODD with my Swift SFX14-50-7003 laptop and I can't give you a definite solution right now, as my wife is using the Swift and she is away with this laptop on business, so I will give you a solution in a few days, as I will try my external ODD drive with this laptop, as I've never ever used the ODD with the Swift, so I've made a note and will get back to you when asap and send you a private message of the results. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

What is the exact Swift 3 model number laptop that you have, it should be something like SF314-xx or 315-xx or 316-xx or the newer models are SFG14-xx or SFX14-xx etc etc, as the external CD/DVD and Blue-ray CDs all work, Win-11 and 10 have included CD/DVD and Blue-ray burning and playing software included and should work as a plug and play into your Swift 3 laptops when plugged into its USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports.

I'm using an old 2010 external Lite-On CD/DVD burner with its Mini USB to USB 2,0 cable with my Predator Neo PHN16-71 model running Win-11 OS and it works perfectly, its a bit slow and you have to wait for all function to work, but it works if you are patient. Due to only using rewritable DVDs for audio recording and music video recording, I'm mainly using Windows Media Player as the burning software. You can also use the old "Nero Burning Rom" as that is also the most suitable software to use, so try all that. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

This is the Lite-On CD/DVD burner that I use and it works perfectly.

This is the old Mini USB back port that this CD/DVD burner has to a USB 2.0 cable plug.
