Hi,

I’m facing an issue with my Acer Nitro 5 laptop where the Realtek audio driver keeps uninstalling itself automatically. As a result, my laptop speakers are not working, and I have to manually reinstall the driver each time. The problem persists even after rebooting, and it doesn’t seem to matter if I update or reinstall the driver.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Power on the laptop.
  2. Error "AUDIO DEVICE NOT INSTALLED"
  3. Checked device manager the only driver installed under Sound, video and game controller is "High Definition Audio Device"
  4. Installing the Realtek audio driver from acer website temporarily resolves the issue, but the driver uninstalls again after a while or after a reboot.

Things I’ve Tried:

  • Reinstalling the Realtek audio driver from the Acer support website.
  • Updating Windows and drivers to the latest versions.
  • Checking for system updates and ensuring all software is up to date.
  • Running the Windows Troubleshooter (no fix found).
  • Using Device Manager to disable and enable the audio driver.
  • Performing a system restore to a previous point when the issue was not present.

    Hi,

🔧 Recommended Steps to Stabilize Realtek Audio

    • Enter Safe Mode: Prevents Windows or services like DTS from auto-reinstalling interfering packages.
    • Run DDU: Choose “Audio” as target. Fully remove all Realtek-related drivers and residuals.
    • Reboot normally and let Windows Update handle the driver reinstallation. No DTS, no third-party enhancement apps.
    • Verify in Device Manager that Realtek(R) Audio or Realtek Audio Codec appears under “Sound, video and game controllers.”

Thanks for the reply, tried your method, and unfortunately same issue persist.
Also every time I install realtek audio driver takes few times and tries before it really gets installed under device manager. What might be the issue.

The Acer Nitro 5's Realtek audio driver may be uninstalling due to conflicts with other software, Windows updates, or incorrect driver installations. To fix this, try uninstalling the driver completely, using a driver uninstaller tool (DDU), and then letting Windows Update reinstall a stable version. If the problem persists, consider rolling back to a previous driver version or downloading a specific driver from the Acer support website.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the steps:
    1. Safe Mode and Driver Uninstallation:
Boot into Safe Mode: This prevents other software, including potentially interfering applications like DTS, from automatically reinstalling drivers.
Use a Driver Uninstaller (DDU): Download and run a tool like Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to fully remove all Realtek-related drivers and leftover files. Select "Audio" as the target in DDU.
Reboot normally: Allow Windows to automatically reinstall the audio driver.

    2. Verify Driver Installation:
Check Device Manager: Open Device Manager (search for it in the Start Menu). Expand "Sound, video and game controllers." Look for "Realtek(R) Audio" or "Realtek Audio Codec".

    3. Troubleshooting and Driver Updates:
Troubleshooter: Use the built-in Windows Playing Audio troubleshooter (Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional Troubleshooters).
Update Driver: Right-click the Realtek driver in Device Manager, select "Update driver," then "Browse my computer for drivers." Choose "Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer" and try an older driver version.
