Aspire AL 14-32P: Where is the Set User Password option in the BIOS menu?

Hi,

Firstly, I am totally surprised that the notebook/laptop computer, Aspire AL 14-32P, comes with a legacy BIOS menu instead of the UEFI menu. Frankly Acer could have done better than that.

Secondly, after entering the BIOS menu of said device, I looked high and low for "Set User Password" (without quotes) option and was unable to find it.

Asus, Dell, Huawei, Gigabyte and MSI each of them provides a "Set User Password" option in their respective UEFI menu.

What does "Set User Password" do?

Upon powering up the notebook/laptop computer, the user will be greeted with "Enter Password"

Without the correct password, the user will be unable to enter the BIOS/UEFI menu or launch the installed operating system.

So, how do I set my preferred password in the BIOS menu so that it has to be entered each time my machine powers up?

The Aspire AL14-31P is a low end laptop that sells for around USD $399.99 that has a N150 6M Cache cpu/8GB DDR5/M.2-512GB NVMe SSD and its only distributed in the Asian and Pacifica markets and Acer community doesn't have an exact service guide that we can look at to give you any exact information on its bios.

Send us a caption of the BIOS > Security section of your AL14-31P laptop so that we can see it, but if your Aspire AL14-31P model doesn't have the setting in BIOS > Security > Password on Boot > then it will not have a password on boot feature that you cab set and you will only be able to put a password on its M.2 SSD boot drive, as a security feature. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Below is a caption from the Aspire AG14-31P model laptop that we have access to its service guide. This is what your Aspire AL14-31P should have in its BIOS > Security > Password on Boot > which at Enable: System will ask input password on post time. and at Disable: System will ask input password when go to Setup

If your Acer Aspire AL14-31P doesn't have the same as below, then your laptop does not have a password on boot as a security feature.

    Hi StevenGen

My notebook/laptop model is fitted with an Intel N355 CPU.

For a comparison between Intel N150 and N355 CPUs, please click the following link:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/compare.html?productIds=241639,241636

It appears that N355 is slightly more powerful than N150.

Well, back to the BIOS of my device.

It doesn't have "Password On Boot" option like yours.

If you're looking for the user guide for my model, please click the following link:

    https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Document/User%20Manual/User%20Manual_Acer_3.0_A_A.pdf?acerid=638759657836425231&Step1=&Step2=&Step3=ASPIRE%20AL14-32P&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=AAP_6

According to page 40 of the user guide for my laptop/notebook computer, there is a "Password On Boot" option. But I have looked everywhere in the BIOS menu and there is none. Do you think that is a good enough reason to ask Acer for a refund?

The password application like above should be in the bios security section, if its not there then you don't have a bios security feature like it says in the manual, as that manual is a generic manual that covers allot of different versions for the Aspire AL 14-31P and similar models. I can't tell you precisely, as I don't have a service guide for your Aspire AL14-31P model as its not available to us here on the Acer community. Pone Acer in your country and speak to Tech Support and ask them. Good luck.
