Hello, my laptop is Acer Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71) and my GPU fan is vibrating and making a lot of noise and it's not because of dust or loose screws. The fan itself still works. It just randomly started rattling one day. The fan in question is Delta NS8CC28 -22G11.
With this, I wanted to ask 3 questions:

1. How did this happen so I can prevent in the future? My laptop is always only on my cooling pad, IETS GT600V2, on top of the magnetic sealed foam.

2. Is it fixable or can I replace it with a cheaper fan that doesn't cost 60$-100$? The replacement fan is expensive and there's no Acer or any stores selling that specific fan in my area. I saw the fan of Helios Neo 16 version costing around 20$ on amazon, could this work?

3. Can the fan vibration cause harm to my laptop? The vibration is kind of weak but I can feel it if I place my hand anywhere on my laptop.

Please help if anybody knows. This noise has been making me frustrated 🤣

    Hi KiteFree,

Thanks for describing the issue in detail—it helps narrow things down. A fan bearing starting to vibrate or rattle within two years is unusual, but not unheard of. A few possibilities worth considering:

    • Manufacturing Variance: Even quality fans like the Delta NS8CC28 may vary in tolerances, especially if sourced from lower-batch OEM runs.
    • Cleaning Technique: If lubricants or compressed air were used aggressively during cleaning, it could damage the bearing seals or displace internal components.
    • Environmental Factors: Frequent use in humid or dusty conditions—even with a cooling pad—can accelerate wear.
    • Third-party Fan Substitutes: The Helios Neo 16’s fan might physically fit, but it could use different RPM ranges or pin layouts. If you're considering replacement, check voltage ratings and connector types carefully.

As for vibration risks—if mild, it’s not immediately dangerous but could worsen over time and cause wear on nearby components or exacerbate thermal imbalance. These fans are cheap and easy to replace (DIY) this link sells a good fan (GPU and CPU fans are the same: CPU GPU Fan for Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 PH16-72 71 PHN16-71 PHN16-72 N23C12 | eBay

Thanks for the answer. I'll probably look into the Neo version fans but I'm not sure if they will physically fit. A few things with the possibilities:

Cleaning: I've never used lubricants or compressed air and I use damp cloth to gently clean it or blow into it.
Environment: My laptop never got much dust after I cleaned it once a year ago because my cooling pad filters dust while cooling. I don't know about humidity, my room is pretty chilly most of the time. Although, I do put my laptop in the corner of my desk(picture)

As for the fan replacements, would the Neo fans properly work with PredatorSense and automatically adjust fan RPM based on temperature or load? Would I need to replace both fans to Neo and how's the noise? Any info on whether it will physically fit or not is big help as well. Otherwise, Neo fans seem to be max 3500RPM (mine is 6000RPM) with the same 12V and 4 pins. I'm not too worried about fans working their ***** off as I never use Turbo mode.

Hi KiteFree, The original cooling fan part numbers for your PH16-71 are: • CPU fan: 23.QNYN7.002 • GPU fan: 23.QNYN7.001

You can find both fans at Zandparts: 23.QNYN7.001 Acer FAN GPU 73.3*70*10.5 and 23.QNYN7.002 Acer FAN CPU 73.3*70*10.5

They’re OEM-matched for your model, so no RPM mismatches or PredatorSense hiccups. Let us know if you need install tips or want to compare with other alternatives like the Neo fan (though it’s capped at 3500RPM vs your 6000RPM).

also when I press lightly on the center of the fan it stops vibrating idk if this is useful or fixable

It says it's for predator helios 18 and the model doesn't match the one I have. Would it still work though?

Hey @KiteFree — glad to see you keeping up the hunt for solutions. Just to clear the air: the Zandparts fans listed for the PH16-71 aren’t generic alternatives. They're OEM-matched Acer originals, with exact dimensions (73.3×70×10.5), correct RPM ratings, and full compatibility with PredatorSense's dynamic RPM control and telemetry.

So while the Helios Neo fans might look similar and run quieter, they’re capped at 3500 RPM versus your native 6000 RPM spec — meaning thermal performance and software sync might not be ideal. Zandparts lists them for your exact model, so the match isn’t accidental.

If you're after peace of mind and plug-and-play reliability, sticking with these factory-certified options eliminates the guesswork and ensures no weird vibration side effects or PredatorSense conflicts.

Thank you very much. I have fixed the noise issue temporarily by taping a small object on the back cover that slightly pushes the fan inward. I will consider replacing it soon with the one you listed.

I bought this laptop 1 year ago on bestbuy and it likely had a previous owner. I guess they replaced the original fans back then with Delta NS8CC28 -22G11 (part number 23.QJQN7.001) which is now vibrating 🤣
