Hi,

I have a issue with my Acer Swift SF314-71-77W5.

I charge the battery 100% full men after 20 minutes the computer says battery is low and turns off the computer.

Its time to send it to service or can I do something to test the battery?

Regards

Hi, run a battery report, paste this in the command prompt: powercfg /batteryreport and open the report with your Edge browser, press Ctrl + P or right click and select "Print to Microsoft PDF", attach the report to your reply, type @Puraw or use "Quote" when you reply so I will get an alert.

    Hi,
Your system is still running a legacy BIOS version (v1.02) from early 2022, which is no longer compatible with the ACPI battery protocols and Modern Standby architecture introduced with Windows 11 24H2. This outdated firmware cannot properly manage low-power idle states or dynamic charging behavior, especially given your recent full battery discharge on July 8. That event alone is enough to trigger a protective lockout in smart battery controllers.

While charging was briefly logged the next day, that doesn’t indicate meaningful recovery. It’s likely the battery’s internal microcontroller flagged unsafe conditions — excessive voltage drops, out-of-spec cell behavior, or degraded capacity. At 335 full cycles and with full charge capacity reduced from 58,751 mWh to under 46,000 mWh, this battery is past its reliable operational lifespan.

There’s also strong evidence the advanced Power Plan or system registry was manually modified to bypass standard hibernation and low-battery safeguards. If those tweaks are still active, even a new battery may fail to perform correctly, as Windows could misreport charge state, ignore sleep events, or allow excessive drain.

    To fully resolve this issue:

    • Immediately update to BIOS version 1.13 (June 2025), which supports modern ACPI tables and proper Windows 11 power management.
    • Restore default power settings via Edit Power Plan and run powercfg –restoredefaultschemes in Command Prompt.
    • If registry keys like PlatformAoAcOverride, HibernateEnabled, or any ACPI-related configuration were manually changed, use the Windows Recovery option under Settings > Update > Recovery to perform an in-place repair. This will reset the system registry without erasing user files (see the pictures).
    • Replace the battery with a verified compatible unit, and perform an EC reset to ensure proper detection.

At this stage, attempting further workarounds or misinterpreting residual battery logs may only delay the inevitable. The system is showing textbook signs of firmware-power mismatch, cell degradation, and misconfigured sleep behavior. Firmware, OS, and hardware must all speak the same language — and right now, that conversation is broken.

Your Swift SF314-71 still has the original Acer bios version 1.02 which is not even listed on the Acer support page for the Swift SF314-71. Do a bios update urgently before you take any further action on the battery, as updating the bios to the last bios version 1.13, could fix the battery issues, as the last bios has calmative fixes from bios 1.06 that updates the firmware of the EC chip that should fix battery issues with your laptop.

Your SF314-71 existing LION battery from the battery report, still has an existing FULL CHARGE CAPACITY of 45,768 mWh at 100% charge, which has only lost 20% of its FULL DESIGN CAPACITY of 58,751 mWh in 2-3 years and should be fully functional, as you don't need a new battery, check the adapter also, if that is faulty and causing these charging issues. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

These are the oem adapters and battery for your Swift SF314-71 if they need replacing:

An Acer Swift SF314-71-77W5 battery showing 100% but draining quickly could be due to a few reasons, including incorrect power settings, background apps consuming power, a faulty battery, or driver issues. Try checking battery usage in settings, adjusting power settings, and updating drivers to see if that helps. If the problem persists, a faulty battery or other hardware issues might be the culprit.

    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    1. Incorrect Power Settings:
    Power Mode:
Make sure your power mode is set to "Balanced" or "Power Saver," rather than "High Performance." You can find these options in Windows settings under "System" > "Power & battery."
    Screen Brightness:
High screen brightness can significantly drain the battery. Consider lowering the brightness or enabling auto-brightness.
    Background Apps:
Check which apps are running in the background and close any unnecessary ones. iFixit says
    Keyboard Backlight:
If your laptop has a backlit keyboard, it can also consume a lot of power. You can adjust or disable it.
    2. Battery Issues:
    Battery Health:
Check the battery health in the BIOS or Acer Care Center. If the battery is old or damaged, it may not hold a charge properly.

    Battery Calibration:
Windows calibration can help Windows display battery life more accurately. With the laptop off, disconnect the power and run until Windows shuts it down due to low battery. Then, plug it back in and wait for a full charge. according to Acer Community
    Battery Reset:
A battery reset can clear any confusion in the battery's learned data. Shut down the laptop, disconnect power, and press the battery reset button (usually a small pinhole) for 15-30 seconds. Then, wait several minutes before plugging the charger back in and waiting for a full charge.
    3. Other Potential Problems:
    Driver Issues:
Outdated or faulty drivers can also affect battery performance. Make sure your drivers are up to date, especially for graphics cards and other hardware.
    Hardware Issues:
If the above steps don't help, there might be a hardware problem with the battery or other components. In this case, contacting Acer support for further diagnosis is recommended.
