Hello,

My question is that I bought an ACER Predator Helios 16 laptop in 2024, there have been no problems with it so far, now for some reason it doesn't want to respond to the power button and won't turn on!

If your 2024 PHN16-72 Predator Neo model laptop is still under the Acer warranty, I suggest that you send your laptop to Acer Tech Support in your country and don't try to fix a power key problem as there is nothing that you can do software wise, as your laptop need a hard reset first and that entails opening the back cover and taking the main battery out and the bios battery which will void your warranty. Also remember that any parts on these new laptops are very expensive, so its strongly advisable that you send your laptop back to Acer.

If your PHN16-72 Neo is out of the Acer 12 months warranty, then as I've said above, do a hard reset by following the below steps, and if that doesn't work, then your laptop could have a main power rail problem and you need to take your laptop to a technician that can pinpoint the exact problem. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Hard Reset - Remove ten (10) screws from the base cover to the upper case of your Nitro ANV15-51 laptop, starting from the upper side, pry to release the upper side latches, continue releasing the remaining latches. Then remove the lower case.

Press the power key for 15 seconds to release all power to the laptop and then disconnect the main battery cable from the mainboard, then take the main battery out. Then disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and then short the bios batteries + & - pins at the mainboard plug (as shown below) to reset CMOS and then take all the ran out.

Leave the laptop like that for at least 30min so that the EC and Chipset chips reset completely and then reconnect everything, as the laptop should turn on and boot properly with an image on the screen.

If your Acer Predator Helios 16 (PH16-71) isn't responding to the power button and won't turn on, try these troubleshooting steps: first, ensure the power adapter is properly connected and the power outlet is functioning. Then, perform a hard reset by disconnecting the power adapter and battery (if removable), holding the power button for 45 seconds, and reconnecting everything. If that doesn't work, try connecting to an external monitor to see if it displays anything. If issues persist, you might need to reset the BIOS to defaults or seek professional help.

Here's a more detailed breakdown of the troubleshooting steps:
    1. Check the Basics:
Power Outlet: Ensure the power outlet is working by plugging in another device.
Power Adapter: Verify the power adapter is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet. The charging indicator light on the laptop should be illuminated when connected.
    2. Hard Reset:
Disconnect: Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
Discharge: Press and hold the power button for 45 seconds to discharge any residual power.
Reconnect: Reconnect the battery (if removed) and the power adapter.
Try to Power On: Press the power button to see if the laptop starts.
    3. External Display Test:
Connect: Connect the laptop to an external monitor using a VGA, HDMI, or DVI cable.
Observe: See if the laptop displays anything on the external monitor when powered on.

Go to Acer’s official support page, enter your full model number (e.g., PH16-71-97PT), and download the latest BIOS. Then, under the Applications tab, download and install the latest PredatorSense. For a safe hard reset, turn off the laptop, unplug the charger and peripherals, press and hold the power button for 10–15 seconds, then reconnect and power it back on

    Hi D1e4Cry,

Just chiming in with a few thoughts that might help clarify things. First off, it looks like there’s some model confusion in the replies—your unit is the Predator Helios 16 PH16-71, not the PHN16-72 Neo that’s been mentioned. These are different chassis with distinct layouts and reset methods.

The PH16-71 does not have a battery reset pinhole on the bottom panel. The typical reset steps include:

    • Holding the power button for 45 seconds to discharge static.
    • Verifying that the power adapter and outlet are working.
    • Optionally, removing the bottom cover to disconnect the battery and RTC cable for a deeper reset—but only if warranty isn’t a concern.

That leads to the key point: since the PH16-71 is a 2023 release, you might still be covered by Acer’s warranty. If so, we’d strongly suggest checking your status via Acer’s Warranty Lookup Tool using the serial number. : Check Warranty Status | Acer Philippines

Power delivery faults—like a stalled EC chip, a faulty DC-in circuit, or an unresponsive buck converter—are best handled with Acer’s service diagnostic tools. They can isolate board-level issues without compromising your warranty.
If your unit’s still under warranty you can request a repair via Acer’s service contact page. They’ll guide you through the next steps: Contact Acer | Quick Response for Tech and Customer Service | Acer Philippines

The links provided will direct you to Acer Philippines, but if you're located elsewhere, simply switch your country using the region selector at the top of the page to access your local Acer support:

Hope this helps narrow things down!
