Everyday when I turn the computer on for the first time it boots then freezes after a minute.

This freezing happens whether I boot to the OS or if I hit F2 and enter the BIOS.

The screen goes black and the computer is unresponsive.

On the 2nd boot of the day the computer boots and works normally.

Anyone else seeing this?

This freezing symptom is because your PH17-51 either EC, Chipset or bios chips are freezing or they have a programming issue or it could even come from a faulty ram module. I suggest that you first do a hard reset and reset CMOS and see if these chips free up, if not then you need to take your laptop to a technician so that they can analyse and pinpoint the exact problems with these chips so that your laptop doesn't freeze post boot. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Hard Reset - Remove the eleven (11) screws from the base cover to the upper case of your Nitro AN17-51 laptop, starting from the upper side, pry to release the upper side latches, continue releasing the remaining latches. Then remove the lower case.

Press the power key for 15 seconds to release all power to the laptop and then disconnect the main battery cable from the mainboard, then take the main battery out. Then disconnect the RTC/BIOS battery and then short the bios batteries + & - pins at the mainboard plug (as shown at plug A below) to reset CMOS and then take all the ran out.

Leave the laptop like that for at least 30min so that the EC, Chipset and bios chips reset completely and then reconnect everything, if you have 2x ram modules, only connect 1x ram module at the time and alternate the two ram modules and see if its not the ram that is faulty, as the laptop should turn on and boot properly with out freezing afterwards.

The "AN17-51 issue" after a BIOS update, characterized by booting, freezing, and a black screen, often points to a corrupted BIOS or an interrupted update. Try a hard reset (remove battery and AC adapter, hold power button for 15 seconds, reconnect) and consider recovering the BIOS using key press combinations specific to your laptop model. Connecting an external monitor can also help determine if the issue is with the internal display.

    Troubleshooting Steps:
    1. Hard Reset:
Turn off the laptop, disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery (if removable). Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds to discharge any residual power. Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then power on.
    2. External Monitor Test:
Connect an external monitor to the laptop. If the external monitor displays an image, the issue might be with the laptop's internal display or its connection.
    3. BIOS Recovery:
Consult your laptop's manual or manufacturer's website for instructions on how to recover the BIOS using specific key combinations (e.g., Windows Key + B, or other combinations depending on the brand).
    4. Safe Mode Boot:
If you can access the boot menu, try booting into Safe Mode to check if it's a driver issue. If Safe Mode works, you can roll back any recently installed drivers.
