I have an Acer Swift Go 14 2023, and every time i plug it in, it starts overheating like crazy, and it makes a weird buzzing noise near the "esc" key. It also begins to lag a lot and freezes up when plugged in into power. Any idea what this could be, and any solution?

Hi, if the battery is almost depleted fast charging will generate heat, are you using a 65W USB-C charger? The noise may be the fan that needs cleaning. Try a 100W laptop USB-C charger that will fast charge in 40 minutes and generates less heat, not a universal multiport GaN charger but a proper 100W laptop charger with a fixed 5A thick USB-C cord. Regarding the freezing, update BIOS and upgrade Windows11 to version 24H2. Change the boost mode (see picture):

Reduce Processor Boost from Windows Settings (not BIOS):

    1. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings.
    2. Click Change advanced power settings.
    3. Expand Processor power management.
    4. Under Processor performance boost mode, set it to:
      • Disabled or Efficient Enabled (instead of "Aggressive" or "Enabled").

💡 This keeps the CPU from spiking to max boost frequencies while charging—helpful if EC firmware is struggling with thermal or power surges.

Use Balanced Power Plan and Best Power Efficiency mode in Power & Battery settings

Here are some fixes that you can try:

1.Change the power mode in Power & Battery settings from Best Performance to Balanced mode.

    2. Use a laptop cooling pad.

    3. Clean laptop air vents to remove dust.

    4. Keep your laptop out of the heat areas.

Your fan is over in that corner and it might be having issues. That would explain the buzzing noise and the overheating.

The Acer Swift Go 14 experiencing overheating, freezing, and a buzzing noise when plugged in likely indicates a problem with the laptop's cooling system, power delivery, or software. Potential causes include a clogged fan, a faulty power adapter, or software conflicts. Addressing these issues can involve cleaning the fan, using a compatible charger, updating drivers and BIOS, or seeking professional repair.
    Troubleshooting Steps:-

    1. Clean the Cooling Vents and Fan:
Dust and debris can obstruct airflow, causing the laptop to overheat.
Use compressed air to clean the vents and the fan area.
If comfortable, you can remove the back panel and clean the fan directly, but be careful not to damage any components.
    2. Verify Power Adapter:
Ensure you are using the correct and compatible power adapter for your Acer Swift Go 14.
Try a different, compatible charger to see if the issue persists.
    3. Update Drivers and BIOS:
Outdated drivers or BIOS can cause performance issues and overheating.
Update the BIOS, Intel drivers (including graphics and chipset), and Nvidia drivers (if applicable).
Windows updates should also be installed.

    4. Adjust Power Settings:
Switch to the Balanced Power Plan instead of Maximum Performance.
Reduce the Max. Processor Power state to 95% or lower when plugged in.
Consider undervolting the CPU for better cooling and higher clocks, but do so with caution and potentially with professional guidance.
    5. Check for Software Conflicts:
Run the laptop in Safe Mode to see if the issue persists.
If the freezing stops in Safe Mode, it could be a software conflict.
Consider uninstalling any recently installed or problematic software.

    6. Hardware Issues:
If the problem persists after trying the above steps, it could be a hardware issue, such as a faulty mainboard or other component.
Contact Acer support or a qualified technician for further diagnosis and repair.
    Additional Tips:
Consider using a cooling pad to improve airflow and reduce heat.
Avoid using the laptop on soft surfaces that can block airflow.
If the buzzing noise is coming from the speakers, it could be a separate issue with the speakers themselves.
