The settings have to go to sleep but its not working. I've tried changing it to change it back but there's nothing. Its draining my battery.

The right side of my keyboard is also really warm.

Hi it is possible that the HALL effect sensor is not working either the screen was replaced and the magnet under the panel bezel was not replaced or there is a software issue (Windows registry). I have a new laptop (Asus Oled) with the same problem and I have to suspend the system with the Power button before closing the lid (no big deal). As your model is 3-4 years old warranty will have expired and replacing the HALL effect module/sensor may be expensive. You can check if the magnet is present by hovering a metal paperclip over the left panel (screen) bezel and if you feel a tug half way the magnet is OK and it will be the HALL effect module, resetting Windows and the registry may also help.

If the laptop doesn't go to Sleep by closing the lid, try to put the laptop to Sleep in the power setting like shown below, as that should work. Also have the lid sensors check as if the laptop doesn't go to sleep when the lid is closed, there is a problem with the lid sensor. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

thanks, sorry to sound dumb but where is that. I've read your comment a few times and I'm confused at where exactly I check. Full disclosure and I'm autistic and if you have visual aids that might help

No problem, the Lid Suspend function is done by a magnetic switch usually located at the left side of the laptop, there is a small magnet at the left side of the screen margin under the panel (called bezel) just above the middle and the HALL effect module is under the left side of the palm rest next to the keyboard. You can check the HALL sensor by moving a small magnet over the left palm rest till the screen turns off and to check if the magnet is present under the bezel with a metal paperclip like I described above. If a software issue and the Lid Suspend feature was working before you can Restore the system to a date when the feature was working that will reset the Windows registry (see picture).

If your Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57 isn't going into standby when you close the lid, it's likely due to a misconfiguration in your power settings or a driver issue. To fix this, you can check and adjust the lid closing actions in power settings, update graphics and chipset drivers, disable USB selective suspend, and consider disabling Fast Startup. Here's a more detailed breakdown:

    1. Check Power Settings:

    • Open Power Options: Search for "powercfg.cpl" in the search bar and open it.
    • Choose Lid Closing Actions: Click "Choose what closing the lid does".
    • Select "Sleep" or "Hibernate": Ensure that the options under "When I close the lid" are set to either "Sleep" or "Hibernate".
    • Save Changes: Click "Save changes" after selecting the desired action.

    2. Update Drivers:

    • Update Graphics Driver: Download and install the latest graphics driver for your specific model from the Acer support website.
    • Update Chipset Driver: Similarly, update the chipset driver from the Acer support website.

    3. Disable USB Selective Suspend:

    • Access Advanced Power Settings: Go to Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
    • Find USB Settings: Locate "USB settings" and expand it.
    • Disable USB Selective Suspend: Set "Allow computer to wake from USB" to "No".

    4. Disable Fast Startup (if applicable):

    • Access Power Options: Open Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
    • Disable Fast Startup: Uncheck the box that says "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".

    5. Other Troubleshooting:

    • Unknown USB Device:If you have an unknown USB device, try uninstalling it from Device Manager and restarting your laptop.

Hi, if you had System Protection turned on in Windows it would have saved Restore Points automatically, enable this important feature and reserve 10% free disk space for your restore point in System Protection, also back up your boot drive at least once a month to an external USB backup drive. Did you try to move a small magnet over the palm rest left of the keyboard to see if the screen responds?

So the HALL Effect module is working properly, now do the metal paperclip method to see if the magnet behind the bezel is present or in the correct position and please respond in full detail what you did to avoid confusion. If you feel/see the paperclip tugs at the location where the magnet turned off the screen on the palm rest then you have a software issue and should try the to reinstall Windows without losing your data.

Hi, move a small metal paperclip up and down on the far left side of your screen till it sticks to the magnet located under the panel (bezel).

If you feel no resistance and the paperclip won't stick to the bezel (frame) the small magnet is missing when the screen was installed, you can ask a PC repair shop to fix that or just work without the HALL Effect switch like I do with my Asus laptop (no big deal).
