Acer AN515-51: Unresolved and Ongoing Issues

For the Acer AN515-51 laptop:

The RAM and SSD have been upgraded.

Thermal paste was replaced.

Windows 10 was freshly installed on the new SSD.

The SSD capacity was increased and replaced with a faster one.

Initially, there was a single DDR4 2400 MHz 8 GB RAM module. Now it has been upgraded to dual-channel DDR4 3200 MHz, 2x16 GB = 32 GB.

(At first, the system did not boot due to the 3200 MHz speed not being supported by the motherboard and processor. Later, the frequency was manually adjusted to 2400 MHz via the BIOS.)

There is no visible hardware issue. The laptop detects all hardware correctly and boots up quickly. However, there are problems with sound, display, and web browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge). I believe these are software-related rather than hardware-related, but at this point, there shouldn't be any software or driver-related issues. All drivers are up-to-date, and I did not have these problems with the same driver versions before.

I suspected the new RAM or SSD might be the cause. I ran comprehensive tests including MemTest and did not receive a single error from either the RAM or the SSD. Initially, I encountered blue screen errors while using browsers (I have attached minidump outputs below), but I no longer receive those errors. However, the issues persist.

For example, when performing a task in Chrome, I receive a "STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION" error very shortly after. Visual artifacts appear in certain images or situations. As for the sound, strange noises occur (I will attach a video demonstrating this). When using Bluetooth headphones, the sound issue disappears, but the same issue happens with wired headphones as well.

To further troubleshoot, I booted into Linux Mint from a USB stick to test, and the exact same issues occurred there as well. Firefox closes abruptly, and there are artifacts in both sound and visuals.

I also removed the new RAM and reinstalled the original single-slot RAM, which has never caused any issues before. However, the same problems persisted even with the old RAM installed.

I have attached a video demonstrating the sound issue — this is the current situation:

There are no issues showing in my Device Manager. As I mentioned, all drivers are up to date, and I never had any problems with this driver before.

Remember that your Nitro AN515-51 model laptops was first released in 2017 and its going on 8 years old, this laptop with its Intel 7th Gen cpu was designed to run at a max total ram of 32GB and at a max speed of 2400MT/s and can function at its best with either the slower DDR4-2133MT/s type ram or with the max speed DDR4-2400MT/s CL17 type ram, see Crucial ram upgrade for the AN515-51 most suitable ram, as fitting the DDR4-3200MT/s CL22 type ram is the wrong type of ram and could have a bearing on your laptops functionality and lagging affects.

With the graphics and audio and Wi-Fi internet issues, you need to completely uninstall the NVidia graphics and audio drivers with DDU uninstaller in safe mode, and with the Intel graphics drivers uninstall the driver through Device Manager completely and then reinstall all the AN515-51 initial Acer oem drivers from its support page, install the Intel graphics driver version 21.20.16.4639 and the initial NVidia graphics driver version 21.21.13.7689 which is really an earlier NVidia driver known as version 376.89, as this could be an issue with the graphics artifacts and the audio as these graphics drivers all consist of audio section within them, reinstall the initial Realtek audio driver version 6.0.1.8432 which was the first audio driver that Acer installed on this laptop if its been updated by windows.

Or and if all the above doesn't fix the graphics issues the NVidia GTX1050Ti graphics chip is faulty (which is a common thing on these gaming laptops) and its on its way out for such an old laptop. Make sure that you also have the last bios version 1.22 installed as that could help also.

Do the same and uninstall and reinstall the Wi-Wi driver and Bluetooth driver with the Acer initial and first drivers, for which ever card you have of either the Atheros or the Intel, as that could be the internet connection issue also. As doing all this should make your Nitro AN515-51 model laptop perform at it best without any of the problems that you are experiencing, Otherwise you have a faulty mainboard and buying a new or used bard is not that expensive these days, so consider that option also. Good luck and hope all this helps you out.

The bottom line in fixing these old laptops is this, look up for a new mainboard as it could be cheaper and a better solution than trying to fix all the graphics, audio and WLAN problems with your existing board. A top of the range mainboard for this old AN515-51 with the i7-7700HQ cpu and the NVidia GTX1050Ti gpu which is Acer board part #: NB.Q2Q11.001 is like USD $264.48 new, so its not going to break the bank as its pretty cheap and there could be cheaper boards around also.

These are all the Acer listed AN515-51 mainboards for your information.

If you haven't changed the main Battey in your AN515-51 then I suggest that you do that asap as the batteries in these laptops only last 3-4 max before they need replacing.
