If the external monitor screen seems to be OK, then the LCD video cable or it's connectors on the mainboard and screen are probably the cause. From your photos, I suspect that re-seating the LCD video cable connnectors a few times to help clean the internal contacts will resolve the issue. Another possibility is the video cable wires passing thru the hinge area may be failing from wear and tear of opening and closing the lid too much. Replacement LCD video cables are fairly inexpensive, usually around $25usd.

Hello, I also recently had the exact problem in my Acer Predator Helios 300 (PH315-54) laptop. I showed it to a laptop repair technician and he guessed it is a screen failure and will need to be replaced. It would also cost a lot of money.

I wanted to ask, how was the problem resolved? Was it just a LCD screen cable/connector issue or whether the whole screen needs to be replaced?

If it was mine, I'd first try re-seating the connector a few times to help clean its contacts before replacing the screen.

Ubuntu suggests a hardware issue, possibly with the display cable or the screen itself. First, try connecting the laptop to an external monitor to see if the issue persists. If the problem is not visible on the external monitor, it indicates a problem with the laptop's display panel. If the issue remains on an external monitor, it could be a GPU or motherboard problem.
    Troubleshooting Steps:

    1. Check for a Loose Display Cable:
The most common culprit is a loose or damaged display cable. Try reseating the cable by opening the laptop and disconnecting and reconnecting the cable multiple times. If the issue is resolved, consider replacing the display cable, as it may be damaged or wearing out.
    2. Check the BIOS:
Boot the laptop into the BIOS (by pressing F2 or Del during startup) and see if the display issues are present there. If the display looks fine in BIOS, it suggests a software issue within Ubuntu. If the issue persists in BIOS, it indicates a hardware problem.
    3. Update Display Drivers:
Outdated or incompatible display drivers can cause screen flickering or artifacts. Ensure you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your NVIDIA or AMD graphics card.
    4. Check for Overheating:
Overheating can sometimes cause display issues. Make sure the laptop is not overheating and that the vents and fans are clean.
    5. Reset the Laptop (If Needed):
If the issue is software-related, you can try resetting the laptop to its factory settings. However, make sure to back up your data before doing so.
    6. Consider a Screen Replacement:
If the problem is a hardware issue with the display panel itself, you may need to replace the screen. This may require contacting Acer support or a specialized laptop repair service.
    7. Check External Monitor:
If the issue persists, test if the problem is present on an external monitor (HDMI or DisplayPort). If the external monitor shows the same issue, it's likely a GPU or motherboard problem.
Note: If the issue is a hardware problem, it may require professional repair or replacement of parts. Consult Acer support or a qualified technician for assistance.
