When an Acer Aspire 7 slows down immediately upon plugging in the charger, it often indicates a problem with the battery, charging circuit, or the charger itself. The laptop may also reduce CPU and GPU usage to conserve power when on battery, which can result in a performance dip when transitioning to AC power.
Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:

    1. Charger and Power Issues:
      Try a different charger:
A faulty or incompatible charger can cause charging problems and performance issues
Test the charger in a different outlet:
The power outlet itself might be the problem. Try a different outlet in a different room.
      Bypass surge protectors:
A surge protector can sometimes interfere with charging. Try connecting the charger directly to the outlet.
    2. Battery Issues:
      Battery degradation:
Over time, laptop batteries can degrade, leading to slower charging and performance issues.
      Battery temperature:
Extreme temperatures (hot or cold) can affect battery performance and charging.
      Uninstall and reinstall battery drivers:
Outdated or corrupted battery drivers can cause charging issues. The Acer Community suggests uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers might resolve the problem.
    3. Power Plan Settings:
      Change power plan:
If the power plan is set to "High Performance," it might be causing the laptop to run slower when plugged in. Consider switching to "Balanced" or "Better" settings.
Check CPU and GPU power settings:
You can adjust individual component power settings in Windows to optimize performance.
    4. Hardware Issues:
Motherboard charging circuit: A faulty charging circuit on the motherboard can prevent proper charging and lead to performance issues.
Pre-boot diagnostic test: Run the pre-boot diagnostic test to check for hardware problems.
    5. Software Issues:
      Driver issues:
Outdated or corrupted drivers can interfere with charging and performance. Update your graphics card and other relevant drivers.
      Background processes:
Too many background programs can consume resources and slow down the laptop.
      Troubleshooting Steps:
Start with the basics: Try a different charger and outlet, and see if the problem persists.
Update drivers: Update your graphics card, chipset, and battery drivers.
Change power plan: Switch to a more balanced power plan.
Run a pre-boot diagnostic test: If the problem persists, run the pre-boot diagnostic test to check for hardware issues.
Contact Acer support: If you've tried all the above steps and the problem continues, contact Acer support for further assistance.

Check power plan settings by going to Control Panel > Power Options, selecting High Performance, and ensuring the processor state is set to 100% when plugged in. Update drivers for via Device Manager your Acer website. Try a different charger if possible to rule out power fluctuations.
