My daughter received a new digital camera and it came with a new usb converter for the memory card. She plugged it in before opening the computer and after that it said no bootable device. (Not sure it’s related but it was working fine an hour before). I have tried to do windows recovery (it won’t access it by doing alt + f10) and to reinstall windows with a usb (acer logo just spins and eventually a windows error appears and the computer restarts). I can press f12 and see it’s set to boot usb when it’s plugged in. When it’s not plugged in there is no boot. Does anyone have any ideas or see anything I’m missing?

Try this method: turn off the laptop, disconnect the charger, and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Check again if you are able to boot into Windows.

The "No bootable device" error after using a USB adapter, particularly when stuck at the Acer logo, often indicates a problem with the laptop's boot order or a potential conflict with the USB adapter. Several steps can be taken to troubleshoot and resolve this issue, including accessing the BIOS, changing boot settings, and ensuring proper USB device connections.
    Troubleshooting Steps:

    1. Access the BIOS:
When the Acer logo appears, repeatedly press the F2 key to enter the BIOS setup.
    2. Change Boot Order:
In the BIOS, navigate to the "Boot" or "Boot Order" section.
Ensure the hard drive (where your operating system is installed) is set as the first boot priority.
If you are attempting to boot from a USB, ensure it's listed as a bootable device and potentially in the correct order.
    3. Check USB Connection:
Disconnect all USB peripherals except the one you intend to boot from, including keyboard and mouse.
Ensure the USB drive or adapter is properly inserted and recognized.
    4. Secure Boot Settings (If applicable):
If you are unable to boot from a USB or CD, Secure Boot might be enabled. Navigate to the "Security" tab in the BIOS and disable Secure Boot if it's enabled.
    5. Hard Drive Check:
If you suspect the hard drive is the issue, you might need to check the SATA cable connections.
    6. Try a different USB:
If possible, try booting from a different USB drive or adapter to rule out issues with the specific device.
    7. Restart and Retry:
After making changes in the BIOS, save and exit, then attempt to restart the laptop.
      If the issue persists:
      Consider a hard reset:
Disconnect power, remove the battery (if possible), and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power, then try restarting, says Asurion.
      Check for hardware issues:
If you've ruled out software problems, a hardware issue with the hard drive or motherboard might be the cause, requiring professional assistance.
      Contact Acer support:
If you've tried all troubleshooting steps and the issue persists, reach out to Acer support for further assistance.

    • Remove the USB converter and any other peripherals, then restart your laptop to see if it boots normally.
    • Turn off your laptop, unplug the charger, and locate the small pinhole on the back. Use a paperclip to press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds, then release it and turn on your laptop.
