Acer Aspire5-A515-45-Battery Draining Quickly on My laptop — Any Fixes?

Hi everyone,
I’ve recently noticed that the battery on my Acer Aspire 5 (model A515-45) is draining much faster than usual. It used to last around 6-7 hours, but now it barely makes it to 3 hours with light usage (just browsing and word processing).
I’ve already tried reducing screen brightness, closing background apps, and using Battery Saver mode, but the issue persists.
Has anyone else experienced this? Are there any recommended settings or updates that could help improve battery life? Or could it be a sign that the battery needs replacement?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Follow the optimization guide below completely:

Windows 10/11 optimization guide for gaming — Acer Community

(You can skip steps 1, 5, 6, 8, 11, and 12, as they are only for gamers)

    To more to this-

    1. Use power saving powerplan from windows settings.
    2. Disable unnecessary feature like location, wifi, bluetooth, etc if not using
    3. Delete useless installed application that runs runs in background. Check task manger to know what app, profess running in background.
    4. Set brightness to acceptable level only.

    That's all

This will tell you if your battery has lost significant capacity over time.
Press Win + X, Command Prompt (Admin).
Type this command and press Enter:
    powercfg /batteryreport
A file called battery-report.html will be saved to your User folder.
Open the report and look for:
    Design Capacity (original capacity)
Full Charge Capacity (current max capacity)
If Full Charge Capacity is noticeably lower (e.g. <60% of Design), the battery is wearing out. If you upload that report here, I can help interpret it for you.

Sometimes a process gets stuck like Windows Search Indexing or Defender scanning.
Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
Look for High CPU usage (anything using >10%), High Disk activity. End tasks that shouldn't be running, or investigate any that stand out.

If the battery report shows that the Full Charge Capacity is low, the battery may be at the end of its useful life. Batteries typically last 2–3 years with regular use before degrading.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

Hi, this model is from January 2021 and if the battery was never replaced consider doing that now as the average battery lifespan is 4 years: New Genuine AP20CBL OEM Battery for Acer Aspire 5 A515-45 Swift SF314 R5-5500U | eBay

If your Acer Aspire 5-A515-45 laptop's battery is draining quickly, several factors could be at play. Check for background processes, adjust power settings, ensure drivers are up-to-date, and monitor your battery health.
Here's a breakdown of potential causes and solutions:

    1. Background Processes and Apps:
      Problem:
Unnecessary apps or programs running in the background can consume significant battery power.
      Solution:
Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and check which processes are using the most CPU and resources. Close any unnecessary applications, especially those with auto-play videos or ads.
    2. Power and Sleep Settings:
      Problem:
Your power plan might be set to a mode that doesn't optimize for battery life.
      Solution:
Go to "Power & sleep settings" and select a power plan that favors battery life, such as "Power saver." You can also adjust screen brightness to lower it.
    3. Battery Health:
Problem: Over time, batteries lose their ability to hold a charge.
Solution: Check your battery health using built-in diagnostics or third-party software. If the battery is significantly degraded, consider replacement.
    4. Drivers and Updates:
      Problem:
Outdated drivers, especially for the graphics card and chipset, or background system/application updates can sometimes cause excessive battery drain.
      Solution:
Ensure all your drivers are up to date, especially graphics drivers and chipset drivers. Check for and install any pending operating system or application updates.
    5. Hardware Issues:
Problem: In rare cases, a hardware issue could be causing the drain.
Solution: If other solutions don't work, consider having your laptop checked by a qualified technician.
    6. Other Factors:
      Screen Brightness:
High screen brightness can significantly drain the battery. Lower it as much as possible.
      Keyboard Backlight:
If your laptop has a backlit keyboard, consider disabling it or reducing the brightness.
      Bluetooth and Wi-Fi:
Disable these when not in use.
      External Devices:
Disconnect any external devices (e.g., hard drives, printers) when not needed.
