My laptop is Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58-52KA I'm going to buy a SSD for second M2 NVMe slot. Is Samsung 990 Pro 1TB PCIe 4 compatible with it?

The AN515-58-52KA laptop typically utilizes PCIe 3.0 for its M.2 SSD slot. While some models might offer PCIe 4.0 SSDs, the AN515-58-52KA is generally associated with PCIe 3.0.

Your laptop has two M.2 slots one likely occupied by the primary SSD. The second M.2 slot supports PCIe NVMe SSDs (both Gen3 and Gen4). PCIe 4.0 Backward Compatibility. The Samsung 990 Pro is a PCIe 4.0 SSD, but it will work even if your laptop’s slot runs at PCIe 3.0 speeds just at reduced performance.

The 990 Pro is a standard M.2 2280 SSD, which fits your laptop’s M.2 slot. If the second slot is PCIe 3.0, the 990 Pro will run at ~3,500 MB/s (instead of its max 7,450 MB/s). If the second slot is PCIe 3.0, you could save money with a PCIe 3.0 SSD like: Samsung 970 EVO Plus, WD Black SN750.

Use HWInfo. Run it in "Summary Only" mode and look for "Bus Interface" under your current SSD (if installed).
    Example: "PCIe 4.0 x4" → Slot supports Gen4. "PCIe 3.0 x4" → Slot supports Gen3.
If the second slot is empty, HWInfo may not show it.

You can test with an SSD, If you have a PCIe 4.0 SSD, install it in the second slot and Use CrystalDiskMark to test speeds.
    PCIe 4.0 → ~5,000-7,000 MB/s (sequential read).
    PCIe 3.0 → ~3,500 MB/s (max).

Since your model (AN515-58) has an Intel 12th Gen CPU (i5-12500H), the second M.2 slot is likely PCIe 3.0.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

I used HWInfo and CrystalDiskMark my SSD is PCIe 4.0 and first slot supports Gen 4 so this means second slot supports Gen 4 too?

Yes, both laptop slots are M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4x4. The Samsung 990 EVO would be a better choice-just make sure you get the Gen 4 version.

The Samsung 990 EVO Plus might be even better, but recently a user reported that the Samsung Magician app did not recognize that SSD. So, I'm not sure about its compatibility. You should research whether there are any issues with the 990 EVO Plus and Magician. If there are, go with the 990 EVO instead.

Yes, the Samsung 990 Pro is generally compatible with Acer Nitro 5 laptops. However, compatibility can vary depending on the specific Nitro 5 model and whether you choose the standard or heatsink version of the 990 Pro.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:
    M.2 NVMe Slot:
Most Acer Nitro 5 models have an M.2 NVMe slot, which is the type of connection the 990 Pro uses.
    PCI-SIG D8 Standard:
The 990 Pro, including the heatsink version, is designed to fit into laptops and desktops that meet the PCI-SIG D8 standard, which many Nitro 5 models do.
    Heatsink Version:
Some Nitro 5 models have a built-in heatsink for the M.2 slot, and the standard 990 Pro might not fit due to the heatsink size, particularly with the AN515-58 model. The 990 Pro with heatsink is designed for a wider range of devices, including laptops.
    Compatibility Check:
Before purchasing, it's always a good idea to double-check the specific Acer Nitro 5 model and its M.2 slot capabilities to ensure compatibility with the 990 Pro.
    Installation:
Samsung Memory advises aligning the new SSD with the M.2 slot, inserting it at an angle, and securing it with a screw.

In summary: The Samsung 990 Pro is generally compatible with Acer Nitro 5 laptops, but it's crucial to consider the specific model and whether the heatsink version is needed based on the laptop's internal configuration.
