If the FN key isn't toggling the backlit keyboard on your Acer Aspire AL14-31P, it could be due to a few reasons. First, try pressing Fn + a dedicated key (often F10 or F9, but check the specific key on your keyboard for the backlight icon) to turn the backlight on or off. If that doesn't work, you might need to check if the backlight function is enabled in the BIOS settings. Finally, try using a third-party tool to re-map the keys if the issue persists.
    Here's a more detailed breakdown:-

    1. Check the Function Key Combination:
On many Acer laptops, the backlight is controlled by pressing the FN key in combination with a specific F-key (F10, F9, or the key with the backlight icon). Look for the icon on the F-keys to identify the correct key.
    2. Check BIOS Settings:
Some laptops have a BIOS setting to enable or disable the backlit keyboard. You can access the BIOS by pressing the F2, Delete, or Esc key repeatedly during startup. Look for a "HotKey Mode" or a similar setting that might be disabling the function keys.
    3. Use a Key Remapping Tool:
If the FN key isn't working as expected, you might be able to re-map the keys using a third-party tool like SharpKeys. This tool allows you to re-assign key functions.
    4. Check for Windows Updates:
Outdated drivers or software could also be causing the issue. Ensure you have the latest Windows updates installed, says a forum post.
    5. Consider a Hardware Issue:
If none of the above solutions work, there might be a hardware problem with the keyboard backlight or the FN key itself. In this case, you might need to contact Acer support for further assistance.

Completely power off your laptop by holding the power button for 10 seconds. Turn it back on and immediately tap the F2 key to enter BIOS. Navigate to the Main tab and find Function Key Behavior. Set it to Function Keys, then save and exit. Once in Windows, try pressing Fn + F8 or just F8 to toggle the backlight.
