General touchpad issues on my Swift Go 14 (SFG14-63) - there are 2 separate issues

Hi guys,

after experiencing touchpad issue on my Swift Go 14 (SFG14-63), I checked this forum and found that I'm not the only one. I have this laptop + - 3 weeks so it's new. After few days after purchase I got touchpad not working issue. I'm experienced HW guy so automatically checked everything - drivers, updates and so on. The issue was caused by Windows 11 update, but it only disables touchpad on Acers and solution is Fn+F10. Simple as that.

BUT ! There's another touchpad issue in parallel with this Fn+F10 "issue". After 2 weeks my touchpad stopped working again. I automatically pressed Fn+F10….but nothing, no mouse cursor. I rebooted to BIOS and touchpad was working there - so no mechanical HW issue, but something SW-related. After reboot touchpad started work again. I checked drivers, everything looks ok, reinstalled I/O driver and did few shutdowns/starts to check situation. These SFG14-63 models doesn't have touchpad driver in the list of drivers (touchpad without that shiny SWIFT logo), also no touchpad settings in BIOS. It relays on Microsoft HID-compliant touch pad driver

So, summary - 2 separate issues with our touchpads - one caused by Win11 update which silently disables touchpad (solution Fn+F10), and another SW-related, which is happening randomly with random solutions (Win update rollback, or reboot, or accessing BIOS first…). Yeah, and of course, in System / Bluetooth & devices / Touchpad is touchpad Enabled all the time. Looks that it's only Windows-related (because touchpad has no issues while using different OSs) and Acer should (in cooperation with MS) release specific BIOS update for each Acer model, or to release new Acer TP driver for each model to replace that generic MS one (Microsoft HID-compliant touch pad)

The Win-11 updates should not affect the touchpad of the Swift SFG14-63 laptop that has a fingerprint reader in the power key, I'm using a Swift SFX14-51G and that is a similar laptop that also has the fingerprint reader in the power key and my Swift laptop never ever had/has any touchpad issues with Win-11 updates and/or bios updates or any firmware updates. My laptop also has a Touchpad Toggle key at F10 like your Swift.

Your SFG14-63 has a Touchpad Toggle key at F10 that you must have pressed and disabled the touchpad, to enable the touchpad you don't press Fn+F10 as that is not the keys to enable the touchpad.

This is the Swift model SFG14-63 laptops touchpad toggle key which is the F10 key ONLY that turns the laptops touchpad functions ON or OFF, this detail is from the SFG14-63 Acer service guide.

    Hi Steven,

the 1st problem which I described with Win11 update - it disabled touchpad automatically, that's the point :-) I didn't disable touchpad "by accident" pressing Fn+F10. That was specific Win update only for devices using AI features. But it's only one-time issue which anyone can solve just by enabling touchpad and that's it.

The problem is 2nd one which I described - when touchpad stop working randomly after Win boot. And that can happen to anyone anytime and it's harder to fix. The basic confirmation that HW is OK is to go to BIOS and test touchpad there. Maybe it relays with Windows Update option Windows Update / Advanced Options / Optional Updates = Enabled…because it downloads drivers from Windows repository….hard to say. But it's strange that I boot up laptop 20 times and everything OK, no updates installed and then I start laptop next day and….no mouse cursor, Fn+F10 doesn't help, drivers OK and so on. Last time I solved it by going to BIOS to verify TP functionality and boot to Win and touchpad was back and everything OK. Strange :-)

I appreciate the problem that you are experiencing, as there must be a fault with the touchpad driver, which you should uninstall and then reboot the laptop and see if it fixes this problem. If it doesn't, then either its the touchpad FFC cable that is faulty or the actual touchpad is faulty.

If you are not computer savvy, take your laptop to a technician and get them to pinpoint the exact faults with your touchpad as this should not be happening. if you are computer savvy check the FFC touchpad cable first and disconnect the cable and clean its pins and reseat the cable into its plug and see if the touchpad works 100%, if not then you have a defective touchpad that needs changing. Good luck and hope this helps you out further.

These are your SFG14-63 parts that need inspecting and/or changing.

Thanks for providing HW part details, but like I said - touchpad IS working. I cannot apply warranty because most time touchpad IS working :-) Let's see if it stops working again. Uninstalling driver and letting Windows to install it again might help. If I experience this issue again, that would be first thing to try - and if helps - we will have solution for everyone

And "Your SFG14-63 has a Touchpad Toggle key at F10 that you must have pressed and disabled the touchpad, to enable the touchpad you don't press Fn+F10 as that is not the keys to enable the touchpad" is not true - we can set Fn key behaviour in BIOS. Just to prevent accidental F10 touch I changed setting in BIOS for Fn key …and I can use regular F1-F12 keys by simple press - like F2 for renaming files instead of using VloumeDown function ;-)

    Hi,

Thanks for sharing your detailed experience. It’s clear that the Swift Go 14 (SFG14-63) is facing two separate touchpad issues. The first, linked to a Windows 11 update, simply disables the touchpad and can be fixed using the Fn+F10 shortcut — a quick and helpful workaround that many users might not know about.

The second issue seems more complex, involving random touchpad failures not resolved by the Fn+F10 method. Since the touchpad works in BIOS and on other operating systems, this suggests a software-related issue within Windows. Reinstalling drivers or restarting the device sometimes helps, but the problem remains unpredictable, pointing to a deeper incompatibility.

Given that the device uses the generic Microsoft HID-compliant touchpad driver and lacks dedicated BIOS touchpad settings, it would make sense for Acer and Microsoft to work together on a solution. A tailored BIOS update or a model-specific touchpad driver could prevent future issues and ensure stable performance for Swift Go 14 users.

    Regards

Yep, I already downloaded touchpad (Synaptics) drivers from different Swift model. If the issue happen again, I'll try to install it as replacement of genrric MS driver and share the result
