Aspire 5 A515-45: Processor showing limited performance

Originally, my processor (Ryzen 7 5700U) was supposed to run at a maximum frequency of 4.3GHz with 8 cores. However, it has recently become very slow. When checking its status, I couldn’t help but notice that the Task Manager showed only 1 core, and under the "Processor Info" tab, it displayed a frequency of just 1.8GHz.

How can a processor suddenly stop functioning at its normal state? I bought my laptop 4 months ago.

Hi, the AMD Ryzen 7 5700U has a base clock speed of 1.8 GHz the CPU may be throttled due to overheating or energy saving restrictions (Acer BIOS).

Go to Control Panel → Power Options. Select High Performance or AMD Ryzen Balanced power plan.

Use HWMonitor or Ryzen Master to check CPU temps. If temperatures are too high, the CPU may be thermal throttling, limiting performance.

Start by downloading the latest versions from support page. Ensure your power settings are set to High Performance mode by navigating to Control Panel > Power Options.

    Steps to improve performance:-

    1. Regularly clean your laptop.
    2. Upgrade laptop hardware.
    3. Update your drivers (especially for the GPU).
    4. Install the latest version of DirectX.
    5. Overclock the GPU.
    6. Optimize the power settings.
    7. Activate Windows Game Mode.
