Chromebook Spin 713 CP713-3W-5102 display just developed faint horizontal lines

Well I am crushed. Absolutely have loved this CB since purchase in May 2022. And just sitting here doing nothing the display just developed what seems to be a common issue of fine horizontal lines. I never use the flip feature and avoid opening and closing it precisely to avoid connection type issues but there it is and not yet its third birthday. I mean even my crappy HP Chromebook took longer than that to have an issue (same failure mode). Is there any remedy? I'm game to open it up but this thing is supported for another 6 years but now toast and relegated to an external display?????

haven't done powerwash yet but it's not a software issue from all indications (recovery mode still shows defect; emailed a screenshot to another device with no symptoms and issue is gone)

Pretty sure Model is CP713-3W-5102

I even had the 2 year warranty, guess I needed 3.

    This could indicate a hardware issue, such as a loose eDP cable or a failing display panel. Begin with a simple restart or a hard reset. If the issue persists, try a powerwash to reset the Chromebook to factory settings.If you're comfortable opening the device, check the eDP cable connections between the motherboard and the display. Reseating the cable might resolve the issue. If the problem continues, it may require professional repair or replacement of the display panel.

    thanks for the input, although I guess that part is pretty obvious. I'm hoping someone will chime in with the instructions specific to this model or point me in the direction of where to find that. As noted, given that a screenshot is clear and that soft reset did nothing, and that it occurred without any software updates or new extensions, etc, leads me to think it is surely hardware.

    Connect to an external monitor – if the external display looks perfect, it 100% confirms it's a panel/cable issue. Also you can try to use built-in diagnostics:
    Open Chrome browser. Type chrome://diagnostics in the address bar.
    Check for display/GPU issues though it won’t detect hardware screen faults, it’s worth checking.

    no results from diagnostics

    external display confirms local hardware issue

    time to dig out the mini screwdriver I guess

    my 1st Chromebook: plasticky $150 HP : 4 years before display cable failure

    2nd Chromebook: Toshiba ($300?): 6 years, same mode of failure

    3rd Chromebook: premium Acer Spin 713 $500: 2.5 years before failure

    It really has been a fantastic machine after the software updates finally stopped the fans from sounding like a 2 ton AC running, but *****. feel a little burned, especially after ponying up for the extra 2 year warranty. Not saying never again, but a drop in confidence in Acer for sure.

    And worth noting I'm a semi-retired 60 year old who never throws this thing in a back pack or other rough and tumble usage. battery still over 80%

    any reliable source for making sure any parts are correct for this exact model?

    in my research most people suffering from this issue have not had luck with simply re-seating and cleaning the cables. Is there any success rate for that operation? If I'm going to crack this thing open, I'd rather go straight for replacement than opening it up twice if it's just wishful thinking
