I'm trying to update my Predator PO5-650 to BIOS version R01-B2 (from R01-A4) to prevent any damage to my 13th gen Intel CPU.
I downloaded the zip file from the Acer support site, extracted it, forgot to run as admin the first time but have since ran the application as admin. The appendix shows that a command box should pop up and I need to type Y to start the update process.
Well, when I run it I see the command box appear for a moment and then close itself.

What can I do to get around this issue and update my BIOS?

Disconnect the power cord and take the bios battery out and CLEAR CMOS first. Then go into bios and load defaults by doing this, exit > load default settings and try flashing the bios again, as all this should not be happening. Be very careful with bios flashing as doing anything wrong can brick the bios chip and then you will need to get a technician to reprogram the bios.

This is how you clear CMOS and take the bios battery out

What happens when you just double click on the R01-B2.exe file? It should open the command prompt for you…

Either double click or right click + run, its the same result. I get the security prompt and click yes and then I see the run window pop up for a sec and disappear.

Try to redownload the BIOS update file and try again.

OK, try this… Open a command prompt in admin mode, then change directory to where the installer is located. From there type:

    .\R01-B2.exe

and then hit return. It should leave the window open so you can see the error message, if there is one.
