I have an Aspire 7 with Windows 11. I go to sign in, and I cannot type my password into the enter password box. Only numbers will type. I can use the keyboard to enter the A1B2C3 reset. Is this a hardware or software problem. And what does anyone recommend?

    in this proceed with reset.

    >At the password ***** login screen, press and keep holding the Shift key on the keyboard. Click on the Power icon at the bottom right of the computer's screen, then click on the option Restart while still holding the Shift key. When a menu appears, then you can release the Shift key. When prompted, click on the Troubleshoot option. Then select the option Reset PC, and continue. When prompted, select the option "Removing everything", "Just remove files", "Local reinstall", and continue / reset.

If your Windows 11 keeps asking for "A1B2C3" at login, it usually means you've entered your PIN or password incorrectly too many times, triggering a security measure where the system asks for a challenge phrase to verify your identity; "A1B2C3" is the default challenge phrase on most Windows systems.

Try these steps to fix this issue

    >If you remember your password, simply enter it on the login screen to bypass the challenge phrase.
Access your Microsoft account settings (either through another device or by using the "forgot password" option on the login screen). Go to "Sign-in options" and reset your PIN. Once we are in, we need to try some troubleshooting steps to fix the A1B2C3 challenge phrase issue.

    >Remove NGC Folder Content
Windows saves your login information in the NGC folder. Needless to say, if the folder is corrupt, has files with bugs, or lacks correct permissions, you will face sign-in errors like challenge phrase A1B2C3 error.
Sign in to your Windows administrator account.
Navigate to this folder – C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft
The folder AppData is hidden by default for safety reasons. You need to unhide it. To do that, in File Explorer, click on View > Show > Hidden items.
Right-click on the Ngc folder and select Properties.
Under the Security tab, click on Advanced button.
    5. Click on Change link next to the Owner section.
Type administrators (no space before or after) in the given field in the pop-up and click Check Names button.
It will detect the username automatically. Click on OK to save changes.
You should now be able to Delete the Ngc folder.
You must set up Windows Hello or PIN, face unlock, or fingerprint again.

If your laptop is still locked out, please do the following steps:

    >At the password ***** login screen, press and keep holding the Shift key on the keyboard. Click on the Power icon at the bottom right of the computer's screen, then click on the option Restart while still holding the Shift key. When a menu appears, then you can release the Shift key. When prompted, click on the Troubleshoot option. Then select the option Reset PC, and continue. When prompted, select the option "Removing everything", "Just remove files", "Local reinstall", and continue / reset.
    or
    >At the password ***** login screen, click on the Ease of Access icon at the bottom; it looks like a timer icon. Click on the On-Screen Keyboard option. Click on the Shift key option at the left of the On-Screen Keyboard on the computer's screen. Click on the Power icon at the bottom right of the computer's screen, then click on the option Restart. When prompted, click on the Troubleshoot option. Then select the option Reset PC, and continue. When prompted, select the option "Removing everything", "Just remove files", "Local reinstall", and continue / reset.

Thank you. But my fundamental issue is that I cannot sign in at all. No letters will type in the enter password box. Only numbers. Which is why I get the reset request. For that I can type both letters and numbers. It will also not let me "see" what I have typed. So, does this change your response, or will I have to revert to the reset option?

Are you able to login by entering the challenge phrase A1B2C3 and providing the correct pin? If you have not setup a pin, you cannot use 'I forgot my pin' You cannot troubleshoot the A1B2C3 challenge phrase issue unless you sign in to your Windows computer. In this case you may need to continue with the reset option> select Remove everything", "Just remove files", "Local reinstall", and continue / reset.

I hope this helps! If this was useful, please hit 'Yes' or 'Like'! Thanks! 😊

Sorry, this is a confusing issue. I cannot enter any valid pin. It will only let me type numbers, not letters. But I can do the challenge phrase. It will let me type numbers and letters for the challenge. And it never gets to the "I forgot my pin" option.

I'm back with a follow-on problem. After being up and running, I shut it down. On restart, it asked for the A1B2C3 again, and asked for my pin. I entered the correct pin, but the system said I had tried too many times and asked for an alternate sign in. Is there an alternate method of signing in? BTW, I tried the "wait 2 hours" and tried again…same thing.
