My laptop's DC in Jack is damaged as is apparent from the picture since one of the prongs inside the tunnel of the DC-In jack are broken.

I also have to move the charger pin quite a bit when it's in the jack for the laptop to start charging which I didn't have to do earlier.

The laptop's Charging port and the charging pin heat up a lot as well while playing games and I can also hear some electrical sparks when I move the charger pin while it's connected to the laptop and the power is on, likely indicating a lose connection.

Can anyone tell me how to fix this?

The laptop is 14 months and out of warranty as of now. Also, the Acer Service Centre in my city is not reliable at all.

Hi, I recommend bringing the laptop to Acer Services in your country as the DC charging socket on the Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-71-553K is soldered to the motherboard. Don't continue using the brick power adapter but get a gaming USB-C charger like the Asus ROG 100-W charger available at Amazon: ROG 100W USB-C Adapter | Gaming chargers-and-adapters|ROG - Republic of Gamers|ROG Global (asus.com)

Thanks for answering but they insist to replace the motherboard even though I am pretty certain that the problem is solely with the DC-in jack.

They are asking for 70% of the original cost of the laptop for the motherboard replacement which is not needed and is too expensive.

Hi, try that USB charger if that does not work then consider contacting a reputable PC repair shop if they perhaps can repair the motherboard. Don't install a used or cheap refurbished motherboard, better to trade in your laptop at eBay and get a new one.

Will try the repair shop first but if that fails I might have to sell it.

Thanks for the help, will wait for others to pitch in as well!

    @Danfil

You can go to the PC repair shop to get that DC port replaced.

The 65W charger you showed above will only be able to charge the laptop during light usage.

Please remember to include @AnhEZ28 when you want to reply back to my comment so that I can check your response.
Thank you and have a nice day!

No, that won't even charge a depleted battery, get the 100-W Asus ROG USB-C charger I mentioned above.

Hey buddy, not the same laptop but I have an Acer predator Helios and had similar issues with my charging port. Apparently it's a fault they have in many gaming laptops. The heat causes the charging port to loosen up over time so you'll have to get it replaced. First you need to find out which charging port it uses and search for that on Amazon or aliexpress. I bought a few charging ports from AliExpress for super cheap and changed mine myself because I have a charging port that plugs into the motherboard vs one that's soldered onto the motherboard. If you open up your laptop you'll figure out what you need. Laptops are designed for serviceability so it's easier than you think. If you aren't up to it, take it for repairs elsewhere.

Hi @hdflat, @Ykm, @Danfil please help a brother out _/|\_ with the solutions you found. It will mean the world to me

I have the exact same issue in my Helio Neo 16 PHN16-71-74H1 (2023 mfd).
I am unable to charge from the main port as it looks exactly as shown in the image above and the laptop doesnt show the "plugged - in" sign. However, I am able to charge it with a C-type adapter which works extremely slowly though. I am out of warranty and not sure if I can go to the service centers in my city (Bengaluru, India) as the reviews arent very great. Can someone please help me out with a fix for this?

Also will using a better C-type charger that might support the laptop well in terms of power be sustainable for the battery? I am a newbie to such stuff so just wondering if it'll die sooner.

    Hoping something works, Thank you!

    Hi @hdflat, @Ykm, @Danfil, @Newgamer123 — I could really use some help here.

I’m facing the exact same problem with my Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 PHN16-71 (2023 model). The main charging port looks exactly like the one in the picture above, and my laptop doesn’t show the “plugged in” status when I connect the charger.

I can still charge it using a USB-C adapter, but it’s much slower. Since my warranty has expired and the nearest service center is quite far, I’m not sure where to go for repairs.

If anyone has dealt with this before and found a solution, please share — it would mean a lot to me.
