SF314-512 Touchpad No Longer working on Fedora 41 and Ubuntu 24.10, Is it Kernel or Hardware issue?
Tinkerer
My Acer laptop is running Fedora 41 stable with the 6.12.8 Linux kernel. I recently noticed last night that I am no longer able to use my touchpad. I tried loading other live environments, such as Ubuntu 24.10 and am unable to use the touchpad there as well. Is this issue a Linux issue, a Linux Kernel issue, or a hardware issue? And if so, is it resolvable? Any help on resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, try this:
1.Press F2 to enter in BIOS
2.Main screen, press Ctrl+S to show the hidden options.
3.Set touchpad as Basic (NOT ADVANCED) or PS/2 not 12C HID.
4.Press F10 to save changes.1 -
Likely a kernel issue, where the kernel doesn't have needed drivers compiled in to fully support all touchpad modes. Your system is old enough now though that I would have expected it to baked in to the latest releases.

I just remembered to check back here a few days ago and implemented this solution. I didn't notice any changes at first and did several restarts while using Linux Mint. However, I did switch to Pop OS on their alpha version of Cosmic and suddenly found last night that the touchpad worked again! Thank you very much for your help!

It might have been. I have the ability to use my touchpad again after switching from Linux Mint 22.1 to the alpha build of Pop OS w/ Cosmic. I implemented the solution I responded to from above, and it seems to have worked. However, it didn't take effect until after I switched linux distro. In either case, thank you for your help!
