spacebar on my laptop broke, paid a shop to replace the keyboard. They finished said the new keyboard was defective. Found out they broke the socket. I need to find this part so I can pay another shop to put it in. How can I get information on the socket?

Which Swift 5 model do you have, should be something like SF515-xx or similar. its very difficult to advise you if you don't give us the exact details of your Swift 5 laptop, as there are many thousands of parts.

Also do you mean that the shop broke the keyboard mobo plug (see below) or what? Post a caption of the broken plug, as that will clear things up even more. Good luck.

This is a Swift 5 SF515-51T keyboard FFC as shown in its service guide. But there is no part for this plug, you will have to get a tech that has a similar board that he can take this plug from and put into you Swift 5.

That plug is called the "FP FFC plug" and its a specialist plug for the Acer Swift 5 SF514-55TA laptop mobo, search the web or an electronic chip retailer that would have this plug,

Best is to take your laptop to a renowned technetium, if you are in the UK or Europe, I strongly suggest Sorin Electronics whio also has a YouTube channel, as he specializes in these sorts of plug fixes without replacing them. As taking it to Acer what Acer tech support will do is change the mobo as they don't replace chips on their laptop's mobos. Good luck and hope this all helps you out some more.

If you need a new mobo this is the SF514-55TA reference mobos

Those are also called ZIF sockets (Zero Insertion Force), and any competent technician who is comfortable with surface mount soldering could replace it. Note that most technicians don't have those skills…

thanks guys unfortunately I’m in california, is there a “part number” or “model number” for this plug? Or someway I can search for it?

No, Acer only gives part numbers for the full assembly, not for individual components. They expect most technicians will just replace the motherboard.
