516 GE keyboard back light no longer automatic

it used to time out automatically and come on when I started typing. Both functions no longer work

    Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue with your Acer 516 GE keyboard backlight:
    Check Keyboard Shortcuts:
    Use Fn + F9 to toggle the backlight on or off.
    Use Fn + F10 to adjust the brightness levels1.
    Adjust Settings:

    Open the Quick Settings panel (bottom-right corner).
    Click on the gear icon to open Settings.
    Navigate to Personalization and adjust the Keyboard backlight settings

    I'm guessing your Chromebook is one of the CBG516-xH models. Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. The keyboard is connected to the motherboard with to cables, one for the keyboard keys and one for the backlight. The latter might not be fully seated in it's connector. Here's a picture of the relevant portion for the CBG516-1H model, yours might be different. The cable is shown as "F":
