My laptop randomly powers itself off without warning around 30-40% battery

Hello I have this problem with my laptop that it will randomly lose all charge around 30-40% even when I'm not doing anything battery intensive like just watching youtube. It's extremely annoying and my laptop never warns me that it's at low battery

your laptop's battery is indeed experiencing issues, possibly due to a dead cell or overall degradation.

so it could time that you change your battery.

Hi, could be a bad battery, what is your laptop full model and how old is your battery? Charge your battery to 100% and leave it overnight completely turned off (disable Fast Startup), then run a battery report, paste this in the command prompt: powercfg /batteryreport and open the report with your Edge browser, right click and select "Print to Microsoft PDF", attach the report to your reply, type @Puraw or use "Quote" when you reply so I will get an alert.

What computer do you have? Your full model number is usually on the same sticker as your serial number, it should look something like xxxxx-xxx-xxxx. How old is it? What BIOS version is on it? What OS are you running? Which version of the OS?

It could be a bad battery if it is more than about 3-5 years old. However, it is more likely that Windows has lost track of what the actual battery level is i.e. it thinks there's 30% available when it's only 5%.

The fix is to recalibrate Windows. Allow the battery to run down until it shuts off. Then fully recharge the battery to 100%. Allow it to run down again until it shuts off then fully charge again. Hopefully that will be enough for Windows to get the correct battery level.
