Shift key disabled after memory upgrade and repaste on predator 17 G9-793-79V5

Hi

I´m a happy owner of a Predator 17 since 2017, but temperatures increased when gaming to a point where the throttling became an issue so, I did the repaste with Kryonaut thermal paste, Artic thermal material remover and Artic thermal surface purifier. I replaced the 2 OEM 8GB Kingston RAM in the back slots with brand new Kingston HyperX HX424S14IBK2/32, doubling the original total RAM. Everything went fine after that except for the ctrl and shift keys which stopped working.

I tried updating and uninstalling the keyboard controller in Device Manager, executing the sc scannow in the cmd, running the Troubleshoot in Update and Security and checking there are no sticky keys, toggle keys or filter keys activated in Ease of access so, don't know what else to try. Can you help me out please?

Executing the test in https://en.key-test.ru/ this is what I got:

Ctrl keys work initially but after 2 to 5 times working they keep disabled.

These are my predator specs:

Model number: G9-793-79V5
Part number: NH.Q1TAA.001
CPU: Intel Core i7-7700HQ
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (x64) Build 19043.1165 (21H1)
RAM: HyperX Kingston Technology Impact 32GB Kit (2x16GB) 2400MHz DDR4 CL14 260-Pin SODIMM Laptop HX424S14IBK2/32

The keyboard is faulty or you haven't put the keyboard cable in properly into the mobo plug, so undo the laptop and replug the keyboard cable so that all its pins are making full and 100% contact. Also take the RTC/BIOS battery out and change to a new battery as this laptop is nearly 9 years old and needs a new BIOS battery, but first and after taking the BIOS battery out short its + & - pins with a metal screwdriver at the mobo plug shown below to reset CMOS and see if that also helps.

If all the above doesn't help or fix the issue, you need a new upper case & keyboard that comes with a cable, as this comes as a sealed unit and the keyboard and upper case are riveted together and if you try to take them apart you will damage these components, so I suggest that you buy a new sealed unit for the G9-793 laptop and your language. To know the part number, take the whole upper case and keyboard out and have a look at the Acer part number underneath and buy the same and a new one. Good luck and hope this helps you out.

Thanks a lot StevenGen! You were right. I solved the problem by reconnecting the keyboard cable before your message came, but I had no idea about that short circuit procedure or about the RTC/BIOS battery life. Anyway, I'm giving you a thumb up for your reply and the thread is closed. Will it be possible to find a part number catalog for this model?

Alexcscu, the only people that have access to the Acer service guides like your G9-793 are the Ace ranked community members, so be a part of the Acer community and earn the rank of Ace and you will also have access😁as we can't pass these service guides fully onto anyone only sections of SGs like we do throughout all the posts on this community, as its a EULA community rule, sorry.

I understand. What do I have to do to become a ranked member?
