Hi everyone,

I’m using an Acer Nitro V16, and I’ve been having an issue where my battery keeps draining even when the laptop is completely shut down. I sent my laptop to Acer’s service center for repair two months ago, but the problem is still happening.

I’ve also noticed that this issue always occurs after a Windows update. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

My laptop’s battery drops 80% within 12 hours, which seems far beyond the normal drain rate. I just bought this laptop a few months ago, and this issue first occurred two months ago, leading me to send it to the service center for repair. However, after a recent Windows update, the problem has reoccurred, just like what happened 2 months ago.

Thanks in advance!

Battery Draining When Laptop Is Shut Down (After Windows Update) in Nitro V16

Hi, Update BIOS, for the ANV16-41 model version 1.25 dated 2024/10/25, for the ANV16-42 model 1.26 dated 2024/09/26. Disable Fast Startup and Hibernate in "Change what closing the lid does" and in "Cgange settings currently unavailable". Also make sure Windows is fully updated. This is caused by Modern Standby that uses excessive battery power when the system is suspended.

I've done everything, yet the battery still drains. Two months ago, I brought it to the Acer service center, and they told me that no hardware had been changed. I don't know how they solved it.

It could be a low-grade battery that is unable to keep its charge, use the barrel plug power adapter and not a USB-C charger, charge to 100% and leave it plugged in overnight then run a battery report, paste this in the command prompt: powercfg /batteryreport and open the report with your Edge browser, right click and select "Print to Microsoft PDF", attach the report to your reply, type @Puraw or use "Quote" when you reply so I will get an alert.

I'm using the original charger (not Type-C) and had charged it to 100% two days ago. However, when I turned it on yesterday, the battery had dropped significantly. It's all after the Windows update. I'm using the latest BIOS too version 1.12. And this is my model Nitro ANV16-41

Hi, Run a Battery report after you charged the battery 100%

paste this in the command prompt:

    powercfg /batteryreport

and open the report with your Edge browser, right click and select "Print to Microsoft PDF", attach the report to your reply, type @Puraw or use "Quote" when you reply so I will get an alert.

As you can see the battery will always drop significantly even if I shut it down. Even when I shut down my laptop after a few hours, I can still feel coming from the back of the laptop. What should I do next @Puraw . Thx

The ANV16-41 is a laptop release on in January 2024 and your laptop should be under warranty if you bought it later, as its a new laptop, if your laptop is still under warranty don't try to do anything and send your laptop to Acer Tech Support asap and get them to fix your laptop, don't delay as parts on these latops are very expensive if you let the warranty expire.

If your laptop is not under warranty then change the battery as it could be a faulty battery if its heating up after you have turned the laptop off or your katkop could have a faulty charging rail that is causing this and not disconnecting from the charging phase, hence continuing its charge and heating up the battery, take your laptop to an experienced technician and get them to analyze and pinpoint the faulty. Good luck.
