My Laptop HDMI port not working, no longer connect to my external monitor.

My laptop went haywire today and I can no longer connect to my external monitor. I have checked everything, even used another laptop. I am concerned that it is the actual HDMI connection that has blown up. I had a similar problem with another Acer laptop after a power outage. There was an outage last night, but the laptop worked perfectly for a number of hours.
Is this a problem that others have experienced? Is it a fault with Acer laptops? I have a surge protector . I will not be happy if I have to purchase another. This one is only A couple of years old.

It would help if you told us what model laptop you have? 😁As if the HDMI port works and then stops working after a power outage then its the HDMI port that must have had either its pins unsoldered by that power surge or the laptop had HDMI lose pins and they dislodged from the mobo and your HDMI port doesn’t work, or the HDMI port is faulty, all these things could have happened. Best is to take your laptop to a technician and get them to dragonize the laptops HDMI port and either resolder the lose port pins or change the port for another new HDMI port as if the HDMI worked its not the mobo that was affected in any way by the power surge. Good luck and hope this clears the problem for you.

Is this the first time you connected an external monitor to your computer using an HDMI connection?

Kindly follow the steps below and update the display adapter driver of your windows and check if the same issue appears

Update the Display Adapter driver on your computer

    Press windows key + X
    Select Device Manager
On the device manager, locate and expand display adapters
Right click on the display driver that is currently installed
    Select Update Driver
    Select search automatically for drivers
Windows will search for an available driver software online
Wait for the process to complete
    Check if everything works fine

If the above method did not work, please try to roll back the display adapter driver to an earlier version of driver

    Press windows key + X
    Select Device Manager
On the device manager, locate and expand display adapters
Right click on the display driver that is currently installed
    Select Update Driver
Select Browse my computer for drivers
Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
List of installed driver will be displayed, select an older driver and hit next until the process completes.

    Hope this will help.

thanks StevenGem. Had a feeling that was probably the problem. Cost of repair Vs getting a new laptop and selling this one is the question. Will contact a few repair guys and try and get a quote.
