Hi all, I've upgraded to 2 modules from crucial CT16G48C40S5 DDR5 16gb each (32 in total). Laptop model: Nitro AN515-58-77K5

It passes memtest86 no issues, but under heavy load (occt test) laptop is frozen.

Occt test running without errors until ram temperature below 71-72c, after I'm getting errors.

Thoughts?

Hey FenrirXIII don't worry about what that OCCT test does, as it could be the software of these tests and how they operate on your laptop. These tests mean nothing, use your new DDR5 ram as intended and it will work perfectly as that is what the AN515-58 laptop with the DDR5 ram was designed for.

Btw I'm speaking from personal experience, as I'm using this exact same ram in its 32GB form in my PHN16-71 @ 64GB with 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 modules with an i5-13500HX cpu and I'm playing high end games and editing lots of videos and the ram is performing perfectly and never ever locks and/or freezes. Maybe its your M.2 SSD drive that is a bottleneck of your system, as I' using the very speedy Samsung 990 Pro NVMe with Heatsink (that the heatsink version will not fit your AN515-58 but the plain model will) so upgrade to a quick gaming M.2 SSD also and see if the memory performs better. Good luck.

Make sure also that you are running the last bios version 2.16 and firmware's for this laptop the last 24H2 and all windows updates, as that is essential also for memory tests in gaming and the OCCT test.

Hi, run Widows Memory diagnostic app. results, (no details if passed) will show in a Notification popup (takes a few minutes) after restarting.

@Puraw as mentioned, I`ve used Memtest86 (no errors) and OCCT (errors). Win memory diagnostic is never considered as reliable tool - I`ve run just for interest - no errors.

@ALL: what will be considered normal (acceptable) temperature for i7 12650H under heavy load? My one is around 88-92 among cores which seems OK. Or those should be lower?

Windows memory diagnostic is considered very reliable; if no errors found IMO, you have nothing to worry about. The temp. is OK for this model, switch to Best Power Efficiency mode in Power & Battery settings that will run cooler, the CPU can sustain 100°C.

Tried everything, all test are passing with old memory but failing / frozen with Crucial - sent those back, I`ve had enough. So )))) Looking for options, any opinions on one of these two:

    1. Kingston FURY Impact 32GB (2x16GB) 4800MT/s DDR5 CL38
    2. Corsair VENGEANCE DDR5 SODIMM 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 4800MHz C40

    Thanks!

I've installed the same OCCT software and have done a thorough 1 hour Memory test with the Crucial 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL 40 ram fitted in my Predator Neo PHN16-71 laptop, and my laptop didn't freeze at all even with the OCCT CPU+RAM test also. Its probably the ram that you have bought from Crucial which is not compatible with the AN515-58, as we can't give you any information on what exact type of DDR5-4800MT/s is suitable for this laptop that was released with both DDR4 and DDR5 ram types as the 12th Gen intel cpu is compatible with both. Consult the memory manufacturers and get their expert advise for compatible ram if you can. Good luck and hope you sort this problem out and when you do, please advise the community what the solution were, thank you.

Note: I don't know why Acer specifies 180pin DDR5-4800MT/s SODIMM type ram (which is NO help) for what type of DDR5 ram is suitable for the AN515-58 laptop, as the normal DDR5-4800MT/s has 262-pin SODIMM modules. I think the Nitro AN515-58 service guide caption below has a misprint and its DDR5 ram specs is wrong, as I can't find DDR5 with 180 pins?

I`ve seen datasheet somewhere that states that DDR5 with 162 pins are OK. There were two revisions of the model - one with DDR4 (160 pins) and second one with DDR5 (162 pins). Native memory from SK Hynix is 162pin based on datasheet.

Yes, it was Crucial issue for sure, for 1 module two times in a row (second module passed everything w.o. any issues).

Just wondering what people have used without issue. Main thing, manufacturer sites not listing my model for some reason.

I don't know about a DDR5 with 162 pins as I've never ever seen them around on the market and the same with the DDR5 189 pins ram like Acer quotes above for your Nitro AN515-58 with DDR5-4800MT/s speed model laptop.

All I know is that my laptop fitted with the Crucial 64GB kit @ 2x 32GB DDR5-4800MT/s CL40 ram that I upgraded my PHN16-71 with, is a Crucial part #: CT32G48C4055.M16A1 with 262-pins type ram and these modules work perfectly with my i5-13500HX cpu and from what I've heard these 13th and 14th gen Intel cpu's can function with up to 128GB and have been tested with 96GB @ 2x 48Gb DDR4-4800MT/s speed and 262 pin ram and worked, as these size ram modules are available on the market, but I can't verify that it will work 100% at those high capacities with these 12th, 13th or 14th Gen Acer gaming intel cpu's laptops like the Nitro or the Predator laptops, but I can 100% verify that 64GB @ 2x DDR5-4800MT/s work perfectly. If anyone wants their Acer gaming laptops to work with 64GB DDR5 ram and above huge ram capacities, then do the research. Good luck.

you've been through quite a journey with your RAM upgrade, and I can understand the frustration of dealing with compatibility issues, especially when the system freezes under heavy load. Since you've already ruled out the Crucial RAM as the culprit, it might be worth considering the Kingston FURY Impact or Corsair VENGEANCE options you mentioned. Both are reputable brands, and their DDR5 modules are generally well-regarded for performance and compatibility.

Regarding the temperatures, your CPU temps (88-92°C) under heavy load are within the expected range for an i7-12650H, especially during stress tests like OCCT. However, the RAM temperature threshold you mentioned (71-72°C) seems to be a critical point where errors start occurring. This could indicate that the RAM modules are overheating, which might be due to insufficient airflow or cooling in your laptop's design. If possible, you could try improving the laptop's ventilation or even using a cooling pad to see if it helps stabilize the system under load.

As for the pin configuration confusion, it’s not uncommon for manufacturers to have slightly different specifications, especially with newer technologies like DDR5. If the native SK Hynix RAM is 162-pin, it might be worth sticking to that specification or reaching out to Kingston/Corsair support to confirm compatibility with your specific Nitro model.

Lastly, StevenGen’s point about ensuring your BIOS and firmware are up to date is crucial. Sometimes, compatibility issues can be resolved with a BIOS update, so double-check that you’re running the latest version.

Good luck with your next RAM choice, and I hope you find a solution that works seamlessly with your system! If you do, please share your findings with the community—it’ll definitely help others facing similar issues.

@wiki76 @StevenGen Thanks for the support! Latest versions of everything - it`s by default.

Pins confusion - very simple: 180/188 pins - ECC Ram; 160/162 - non ECC.

I hope that Kingston / Corsair will work, their data sheets corresponding to Hynix specs, but we`ll always have those grey areas. In any case - I`ll update the post when will have data.
