Hello,

My name is Stefan and I try to manage to revive an old PC. Therefore I need the Bios update file for an Acer Aspire X3960.

The latest version should be P01.B0.

The Acer Updater does not show any file to download.

The update shall solve issues with the latest Win10 versions. On 1904 it runs smoothly, on all newer versions, I get BSOD.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @Web2025 Acer has already removed the download files from the computer so it is not possible to access any updates, sorry Stefan:

Thank you for the quick reply.
I thought that maybe there is an archive for the old files.

Do you know who could have a private collection of these Bios files?

I found another file here, but I have no idea how to verify it:

    What do you think?

That 3rd party site should work.

Since this is such a delicate update, I wouldn't risk using third-party files, you run the risk of being left without a motherboard. We don't know if they are official files that were on the Acer website or unofficial modified files.

Why do you think you need a BIOS update? Typically a machine that old hasn't had any changes to the BIOS for many years, so it falls into the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" category.

Yes. This is a delicate update that could destroy the board.

When I look on ebay, I find the same computer, even running on Win11 (most probably some checks were bypassed). But the one that I have works perfectly on Win10 1909, but not with the later versions. I checked the minidump files and found on the Microsoft website that others had the same problem with PCs having i5-2xxx CPUs. They solved the problem with a BIOS update.

Therefore i hope that the same works for me.

The error, that the task manager/resource monitor is always showing 100% load and more than 20000000 GHz, i also have.

I already dismantled the complete PC and tested the RAM to exclude other problems.

That was the thread in MS forums: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/bsod-kmodeexceptionnothandled-in/0a8ff6d6-871b-4576-af49-e1ce2229a387

The MSFT community case is not applicable here because the device is no longer supported by Acer and there are no recent BIOS updates.

Thanks for your help. I downloaded the update file from drivers.plus. And I was lucky, as everything is working fine after the BIOS update.
